He's an absolute load when he's on, has all the tools, that's why he was drafted so high, lot of the same reasoning as the Byfield pick

again the question is which guy will we (consistently) get--the PPG one ragdolling and making mince meat of Auston Matthews, or the rough one

PLD reminds me of all those big power forwards that teams used to be obsessed with in the dead puck era. Dave Taylor would have definitely been all over bringing this guy in back in the day.

I think we definitely got the most skilled player, the most proven player and the guy with the highest ceiling. He could easily take the next step, in a better atmosphere, which is probably not the case with Vilardi due to health and skating concerns. But PLD could also be a guy who frustrates the hell out of everyone, a modern day Chris Gratton for any long-time fans.

Dubois is a 2nd liner until proven otherwise. Doesn't make much sense to count the numbers seeing as he played both center and wing last year. If he was exclusively a center, he would have been 35th in scoring among actual centers, which are 2nd line numbers. I would bet the farm on a career year if he is with Fiala all season, so all this is likely moot summer conversation.

Kopitar was 21st. Tough to compete when your best offensive center finishes in the bottom third of top line pivots.

Well, I don't know if I would call him a 2nd liner. I mean, there are 96 first-line forwards in the league and he was 72nd in p/gp for all forwards. That's top-line production. You can look at it from the center slant of course, but that also means that guys like Zegras are 2nd liners, when that obviously isn't the case. So it depends on how you look at it. I agree if he's with Fiala he's going to see a substantial jump in numbers unless the chemistry completely fails.

And you know, Eichel was 24th in p/gp among centers, in that same bottom third as Kopitar.

I think we all knew how salty Habs fans would be if PLD didn't sign there but I was not ready for this amount of cra cra.

Viral Live Scene: Michel Bergeron Confronts Pierre-Luc Dubois On His Change Of Mind With The Montreal Canadiens

"Many are disappointed not to see you in Montreal, that's obvious. We've been talking about you for months, since you said you wanted to play with the Montreal Canadiens and not with the Winnipeg Jets. Now, tell us the truth!

It didn't work out in Columbus, it didn't work out in Winnipeg, and it didn't work out with the Canadiens. Now, will you be in Los Angeles for long?" - Michel Bergeron

Any French speakers here that can translate PLD's response?

"Yes I hope, I hope. With all the conversations we had during this process and now I am going to LA next week for the week and looking forward to meeting with everyone, the staff, the team, yes, it's a 8 year deal but I hope to stay for all 8 years." - PLD

Count me as one of the people who questioned his character without actually knowing a thing about him, and now am seeing that he seems to be a great guy and someone you want in your locker room. Let’s hope the pleasant surprises continue to unfold.

He's very well spoken and soft spoken

so either he's misunderstood or he's a f***ing serial killer

happy either way
The fact he already wanted out of Columbus def makes this look alot worse than it is. There's been smoke around that locker room for years dating back to before he got there (specifically Kane/Laine) and they've had multiple coaches call them out throughout the years. Can't say it's a situation I'd want to stay in either.

So Vilardi remains unsigned, as does Kupari.

I wonder if people’s opinions would change if it comes out that Vilardi wanted to get every dime he could get out of his next contract (which would not be surprising or unreasonable considering his injury history)

Trevor Moore had a career year in 21/22, scoring at 49 point pace and turned it into a contract that most of the fanbase now thinks is excessive. Gabe Vilardi also had what has so far been his best season as a pro (a 53 point pace) and like Moore is probably trying to get paid big. We will have to see if Vilardi grows on that and takes another step, levels out at what he was last year or goes back to how he previously played in the NHL.

The idea that it made any sense for Vilardi to "take a bridge deal", "give a hometown discount" , "give a team friendly deal" , "bet on himself" never made any sense at all.
