Alex Galchenyuk Thread 7.0 - "Turns Rust To Gold?" Edition

We all know that MC won't break the top line:

Patch - DD - Cole
Galchenyuk - Plek - Gio
Prust - Eller - Bourque
Moen - Nokia - Armstrong
White

Most realistic line-up so far.. Personally I have Bourque as 13th foward, Moen playing with Prust and Eller..

That would be so great for Eller to have to play again with players that cracked the 20s only once in their carreer...

I also disagree for Bourque. He's been bad with us last year, but he was on pace for 20+ goals in Calgary and scored at 25-30 goals pace the 3 year before. Honestly, I prefer trying an inconsistent, physical, okay defensively, 25ish goal scorer on my 3rd line thant a great defensive player with the offensive potential of a 4th liner. If Bourque still doesn't get going after a while, then you can put him as a 13th forward.

I don't know about him playing on the second line right away. I mean, he obvisouly is the most talented player we have in a very long time, but he still needs to make the transition from junior to pro, no matter if it's this year or next. Since he can't play in the AHL, I think the best way to make the transition quickly would be playing with Eller, even if it is just for the first 10ish games of the season.

Well, obviously if we are talking about next season, there's a 3 week training camp to determine where he fits exactly.

I wouldn't have an issue starting him on the 3rd for a bit to get his feet wet next season because there's going to be no point in him going back to Sarnia.

Considering this year you are looking at 5-7 days of camp + a 40-50 game schedule that is going to be completely bizarre, it's a different animal.

Yeah, you're right. It's really hard to predict what can happen with this season, if it ever begins.

Gally might have a good shot at making the team with a shortened schedule.

He is in game shape and he is a younger guy who may endure the intensity of a compressed schedule better than our older players... especially those that are not playing competitively.

Exactly. I don't get the notion that if we're healthy and add Galchenyuk that it won't make a difference and we're destined for a top 5 pick. Adding a player of his skill level (despite his youth) is a big difference.

Impossible to tell without a new CBA. Under the old terms, yes, he burns a year off his ELC, but it's only the first year of 3.

But yeah, we won't see a over 1 ppg rookie anytime soon in the NHL. Galchenyuk is good, but the days of 130-150 pts Art Ross are over.

Believe a prospect can come to the league and be a ppg+ player is a huge expectation... if he could put a .65 ppg it would already be an awesome season.

Also i remember when a.kost came to montreal lot of people were saying he plays like forsberg... lets just not put unrealistic pressure on the kid. He has all the talent in the world but one thing at the time.

I suppose it is possible he'll start playing but I don't have much hope until he's in the last year of his contract. Interviews from Calgary suggested that he's the poster boy for a series of 1 year deals.

I don't regret the trade at all. We just had too many small forwards and when Cammy wasn't scoring he was pretty useless.

Bourque isn't a complete lost cause. If someone can light a fire under him he'll be great. If not I just hope that we won't wait too long to buy him out or whatever way's best to be rid of him.

I think MB's about icing the best team possible. Like it or not if AG's ready then he's playing. I'm confident that he's too good to be ruined so I'm not worried about that at all.

A 27 goal scorer as a 13th forward? That's not realistic at all. Bouqrque had a crappy end of season like A LOT of our guys, including Plekanec. Add to that Armstrong being a much better player with the puck than Moen or even Prust.

I'm not aware of Prust's game so I can't comment. I'm sure he could be a good 3rd liner but I don't like that he was 'promised' playing time. It kind of limits our options. What if he ends up on our 4th for whatever reason? Is he going to complain?

Galchenyuk is a center and should be brought in as one. I see Galchenyuk on as second line center behind Desharnais...

A former and erased 27 goals scorer.. Ive 0 faith in Bourque personally, I dont believe in this guy 1 sec and I think you should do same cause you will be desapointed big time.. Bourque will have to earn his ice time, thats why Ive him as our 13th foward..
