Maybe it was bound to happen at some point anyway. So maybe the reasoning was that it was better to do it now, when most teams (except Colorado?) aren't plagued by injuries yet and still have full line-ups, so it makes it less likely for ABB to be claimed.

Laval would be a great place to play hockey for $775,000 a year
Never understood why pros (on the fringe) were not ecstatic to become regular "employees' of the AHL.
Eff NHL, if the opportunity is not there.
$750k to play in Laval is like winning the lottery. Teach the younger kids, check your ego at the door.

Thought they may do this at the beginning of the season i.e. the day 59 players were on waivers. Even if they were planning on keeping him, he's cleared before and would have avoided exposing him now. If he is claimed though, it opens up a roster spot to add someone. He's a good guy to have in Laval if they need a callup.

D’chez nous media is not going to like that. But Isn’t this just to make room for Struble return though? Struble in. Barron upstairs to eat hotdogs. ABB a Laval. What’s the issue?

Struble could come back and we would still have been a 23 man roster.

This is more about Kapanen and Heineman proving they can be regulars.

I think they can waive him even if they're not sending him down to Laval if they think he will clear. Then they have 30 days where he can be sent down without having to clear.
