When he was drafted, I figured Kisakov just a classic small/skill guy. In the first 5 Amerks games, he's more like that factory of speed/skill/corner-goers that Pittsburgh put around 87/71 for the last 2 cups. Very interesting.

14. Alexandr Kisakov, LW, 21 (Rochester Americans)
Kisakov is a highly gifted winger with an underdeveloped 5-foot-11 frame (he’s listed at 164 pounds now, which is still lean, and that’s up about 10 pounds from a year ago). He was a fun player to watch against his peers in the MHL because he was never actually in trouble with the puck on his stick, and regularly pulled and dragged it through feet to beat the same defender twice (which will get harder against better defenders but is a sure sign of skill and comfort). His adjustment to the AHL has been bumpier, but there have been some flashes and if they play the long game with him there might be some payoff. I could see him stepping into a more offensive role and having more success than he has had in a depth role once/if players like Rosen and Kulich move up.

He’s got a silky-smooth first touch, which helps him catch and release pucks quickly (to shoot or give it back). His ability to change directions, adjust on his edges in control to hang onto the puck under pressure and flurry around the offensive zone to wreak havoc makes him a first-round talent. He has mastered a spin move, somewhere between a cutback and a pirouette, that he uses one-on-one with defenders on the perimeter as a way to create separation for himself. His athletic immaturity, though, does raise concerns about how his skill will translate and gives him a long-term projection even if he does make it. There’s a boom-or-bust element to his projection but his offensive-zone gifts could result in a complementary skill winger in the best-case scenario.

It’s interesting that Kisakov was mentioned and Poltapov was barely an also-ran. I would have expected the other way around but I suppose AK being in NA helped his cause. Poltapov has also been pretty hot garbage of late.

No secret its been a tough year for Kisakov. He's had injuries, and an unfortunate amount of what seem like healthy scratches.

That said, had a big game with Rosen and Kulich yesterday. 2 assists. Hopefully can build some confidence. It has to be tough watching Neuchev come here and explode right away.

He has hand skill and vision for days. His commitment to coming over and integrating was top notch. What he seems to have at the heart of all of it was how slight his frame was when he was drafted and even now he's still not carrying enough mass. He has to get bigger to survive the rigors of the AHL and even putting on the mass he has, he's got to add more IMO.

And he needs to stay healthy enough to keep adding.

He's been in Rochester for 2 years now and he's STILL a scrawny thing. He's plenty of skill.....but his body isn't holding up.

He needs to hit the gym and seriously gain some muscle.

Not sure how much he can stack on. He's gained a lot from when he was selected, but it's sometimes not easy for these guys.

Opportunity, he is in that weird mixture of fighting for playing time with AHL vets and top pick development players. He should have been in on the latter. He should have a shot this year but Helenius coming over may muddy it more for him. Maybe after camp breaks something like Johansson from Detroit or Seeley from Carolina to shift things around a bit.
