I will be shocked if Greensboro gets a 2nd AHL franchise, let alone another ECHL franchise at this point. The Monarchs two-year stint didn't go well and pissed a lot of people off. I get that was 1995 but Hockey in the Triad in general hasn't gone over well since the Hurricanes left 20 years ago. It's too bad because they were a great ECHL town but the ECHL isn't even what it was in 1995.
Plus, I'm not sure the Greensboro Coliseum can host a Hockey team nowadays anyway, not with UNC-G hosting the mens and womens hoops teams and the G-League Swarm playing at the facility, what dates would even be available?
I was an advocate for Greensboro getting a team again, preferably the Canes ECHL team, but Greenville does a better job supporting the Swamp Rabbits than Greensboro did w/ the Generals and whatever other teams they and Winston-Salem have had since the Canes left. And, if there's no facility for them to play in, forget it. That Annex or whatever it is in Winston-Salem right next to the Joel Coliseum, isn't going to cut it.
