Post-Game Talk: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Leafs up 2-0! Win 4-3 Game 2

Free wheeling Willy now has recorded 9 goals and 16 points in his last 10 playoff games. :hockey:

People questioned when Treliving locked him up long term for our Leafs.

Nylander's contribution and dominance is really validating Leafs long-term investment in him.
2nd to Draisaital in goals per game over last 5 playoff years

I agree. Given his injury history a longer-term deal might actually have benefitted him more than the team this time.

Right now, our window corresponds to the years remaining on his contract and the years remaining in Tanev's body IMO, or whichever is fewer that is.
Tanev, OEL, JT, and Patches have really stepped up, but they’re all going to decline sooner than later, this is definately the year to win it all because it won’t be any easier next season imo……

Getting really tired of talking about expected goals. End of the day, the Leafs have scored 3+ goals in every single game so far except for game 5 of the Ottawa series which was a one-off bad performance. Remember when Keefe's Leafs would frequently have higher expected goals and top out the 'Deserve to Win o Meter' every time but get goalied and struggle to score more than 2 goals? This is also with a compromised Matthews who isn't scoring at all and playoff Mitch Marner who is lucky to get one goal per series. It's also very clear that teams don't really use corsi or expected goals as meaningful stats to them anymore as there are other ways to win that don't revolve around having constant possession of the puck like Carolina, just look at the 2018 Capitals or 2019 Blues (who Berube coached no less) for good examples.

There are also stats we are not privy to, like the ones Sportsnet shares from SportLogiq, which focus on things like slot chances, cycle time / chances etc which paint the Leafs in a much better light. We are focusing on winning the slot battle against Florida, which we have done a good job at.
Expected this and expected that is a totally made up up nonsense stat.

At this point ...with the second best jersey in hockey, being an original six team,
not having won in forever... I really was pulling for a collapse as the Blackhawks
have the leafs first rounder this year.

However at this point it looks like the Leafs may win it all, and I would be happy
for them.

Just once before I die man, that's all I ask, you can go back to dunking on us next year

Really pleased for Woll last night.

Appreciate how hard he battled early when he didn't look comfortable.

Thought it was important that he didn't just hold on for dear life the way he did in game 1, but actually found a bit of confidence and comfort as the game, and in particular the 3rd period, wore on. That toe save on Mackie will have done him a world of good.

I’m still waiting for this big bad Panthers team to physically dominate us that so many on the main boards said would happen??? I mean all the Leafs did last night was throw 41 hits and block 26 shots ;)

Best feeling this year is that we are finding ways to play our game on our terms, not overreacting to the other teams

The worst feeling is that Matthews has absolutely 0 ability to shoot the puck

Lots of whiney little girls in the main thread.

How about both? Brodie was another 98-100% defensive player in his first three years here.

In fairness to Brodie, he was really good his first 3 seasons here even though he was playing his off-hand side. We needed more d-men like him and Tanev.
If you were going for 2 defenders from Calgary, I would have looked at Tanev and Weegar.

Highly unlikely that Calgary would give up 2RHD in one fell swoop.

I was never a Brodie fan and I’m not a fan of taking a LHD and forcing him to play his offside.

Dubas would never address it properly and we would dress 5 LHD and 1 RHD, who would be Holl.

Anyway, glad that Treliving addressed RHD in short order and very very well with Tanev and Carlo.

Cheers

Wrong side or not, his defensive results were absolutely through the roof during his first three seasons here - a clear established pattern of limiting shots and chances while he was on the ice. We're talking 98-100% WAR.

And it shows in the GA results too... three times top-8 in the league, results we have only matched or exceeded twice in the past 46 years of the NHL being a 21-32 team league (the first two Burns/Gilmour years).

His impact was immediate and measurable. (and Weegar was a Panther back when we signed Brodie)

That’s fine, going to agree to disagree on Brodie. RHD options were there and Dubas repeatedly chose not to address it.

Ridiculous that Rielly has been on this team for this long and finally has a true RHD partner in Carlo.

Thanks for the reminder on Weegar being in Florida. I remember it being reported that there was a deal for Weegar for Dermott and Johnnson and Dubas didn’t pull the trigger. I thought it was with Calgary but I’m not going to go back looking for it.

Cheers

Who is this guy?

Depends how Tre spends the $20m we think it will take to sign Marner and Tavares. He did pretty good this past summer adding some Tanev, OEL, Stolarz, Lorentz and Patches. I think adding two or three playoff performers with that $20m could make us better. Confident Tre can make the right decisions in anticipation of July 1.

I can't believe how much other Canadians hate us. This year, I honestly don't give a shit about petty hockey rivalry. Any Canadian team winning is great for our country and I want to see it. People would rather see a cup in FLORIDA than you're own province? Gtfo

It's kind of weird too, even just looking through some other random team boards on here, like Leafs fans and people in Toronto don't even think of many of these fanbases or cities...we're not actually rivals, yet some of their comments show they hate us lmao, weird stuff going on mentally with a lot of these folks. It speaks to the inferiority complex many people just have with the Leafs and in many cases Toronto sports in general.

Apparently Alberta is going to try to.
