Post-Game Talk: AHHHHHHH!!!! Leafs win 2-0 Game 6

Looked like a partial screen from the d-man may have prevented Bobrovsky from tracking the puck until it was too late. As long as it went in.
It was a big slower than the usual Matthews shot, and I think that's what fooled Bob. Bob's a reflex goalie, so he reacts to the shooter, but most of the time his reactions are based on the shot coming in hard. He's let in quite a few goals this series with slow wristers or backhands because he's moved too quickly trying to anticipate a hard shot. And I believe both Game 6 goals were of the same type; fast enough to get to the net but not full speed, meaning he reacted too fast. On the Matthews goal, he goes into a butterfly stop as soon as Matthews shoots, but because it's not a howitzer he's bouncing back out out of the butterfly when the puck gets there, meaning his 5-hole is wide open. On the Patches goal, he was anticipating a writer to the corner, but Patches uses a backhand just high enough to get over his pads. So his glove is too high and he can't bring it down fast enough to make the save.

James Tanner would flat out tell you that Holl is better than Carlo
There is a tendency to assume that given the price paid to get him, Carlo has to be in the top-four. That's broken thinking. It doesn't matter what he costs or how he got here. The best place for him is the best place for him, regardless of outside factors. Sitting Philippe Myers doesn't seem like a big deal because he's not well-known, but there is evidence that Myers is better than Carlo, and he is for sure better at moving the puck, which is what the Leafs actually need.
In case you wanted to see some bad Tanner takes on Carlo. Phillipe Myers is better? Uh, sure...

Here's the one where he absolutely RIPS the Leafs for trading Lilly, claiming he's the 4th best D-man on the team at the time:

Here's one where he claims the Leafs were due to a massive regression hitting the playoffs because of bad advanced stats: Stats say Maple Leafs are the NHL's most overrated team; Regression is coming

But this one paragraph has to take the cake. Man, am I glad our GM isn't thinking like this: If the Toronto Maple Leafs Had the Best GM in the NHL, Here Is What Would Happen
Using all of those players would allow them to move out David Kampf, Max Domi, Calle Jarnkrok, Max Pacioretty, Ryan Reaves, and Conor Dewar, which is $11.6 million, giving the Leafs a net savings of $6 million dollars which they could then use to improve their fourth line and blue-line.
He also called for Lorentz to be left out of the playoff lineup because "he brings nothing".

I read his articles to laugh, because most of the takes are so out to lunch. The one thing he clearly hates is any attempt to make the team bigger or tougher, complaining that pure skill is always better.

He also really hated the Stolarz singing and argued that the Leafs should have targeted John Gibson instead. Because they needed a "proven starter" not a "backup".
I stopped reading his articles a couple of years ago. I got tired of coming away stupider after reading them.

He’s only 26, which is still relatively young for a defenseman. During an interview, Tanev mentioned Benoit and spoke highly of him, not just about their growing chemistry on the ice but also the bond they’ve developed off it. He described Benny as an incredibly hard worker who’s eager to learn and said he’s been sharing whatever knowledge he can. Who knows, we might really have a hidden gem on our hands.
We do.

Not in today's NHL. I doubt he'll be worth his next contract. But good for him. You go out and prove it and put your health on the line, go get your bag. No one will question it. Until the next team realizes they're paying 2nd pairing money for a 3rd pairing warrior.
He’s a top four dman now who plays with an edge. Totally underrated.

You can tell the future huh 🤔? I’m trying to make a parlay for today give me some winners if you don’t mind
Only on things that are obvious. If I could pick winners on sports betting sites, I’d be living in luxury surrounded by beautiful woman and golfing everyday.

Nothing is obvious is my point who would think matthews would have the year he’s had and I wish I could do it too as I would enjoy life the same way

He also refers to Brandon Carlo as "Carlos" a bunch of times, so I think that level of professionalism speaks for itself.

Unless Benoit falls off a cliff, re-signing a 6’4” 28 year old defenseman who plays with bite and loves being a Leaf is a no brainer. The Cap is projected to be $113M and this player isn’t just about money so won’t break the bank. If you don’t get that, I can’t help you. Matthews inconsistency is a head scratcher. He’s too frequently injured and is still learning what it takes to push through tough checking in the playoffs. It’s anybody’s guess how his career will go from here. Is he a Captain who can lead a team to a cup ? The jury’s still out for me.

Yeah he’s really fallen off hard. But no doubt after this season the brainiac Leafs will give him a 9 x 5 or something dumb
The underlying numbers suggest his decline is still taking place, at the rate it's always been, but shooting percentage has propped him up.

It's a scary combination for a guy at his age with his skating.

He can still be useful. But I hope in negotiations they take full advantage of the fact that he has no interest in playing anywhere else.

After the massive overpay the past 7 years it is time for the super team friendly stage of his career.. or leave.

A few aging stars have had their numbers helped by scoring increasing lately.. but it’s still clear they are declining.

The same people shitting on Benny's advanced stats said that Lilly was the best 3rd pairing D in the league...let that sink in...
I for one am one of those people not the advance stats part but I thought and still think Hes a better defencemen doesn’t mean Benny isnt playing great for sure

He's definitely Zekes (NotBias) or Dekes.

Has to be

the UFA that scares the daylights out of me is Ekblad. I know some posters here are advocating signing him with money freed up from letting Marner walk. Ekblad will almost certainly get a 7 year contract from someone, but I think even with a rising cap, that deal could look pretty ugly by Year 3 if his body breaks down completely.

Teams do advanced salary planning based upon what they see now and what they project that player to be. A 26 year old defenseman who’s just coming into his own will be a better player in two years and playing in their top four. You either don’t believe in the player or you do. I do.
