When they traded Walker, they were sorta giving up on the season, you don't trade your top D-man if you're serious about a PO run. 19 games left in the season.
(5x5 VGA) xGF% 52.48% (10), HDCF 54.67% (8)
(All) GF/60: 2.36, xGF/60: 3.04; GA/60: 3.94, xGA/60: 2.89
They struggled to finish and the goaltending was putrid
But they didn't fold.
The PP actually improved slightly, but the PK fell apart.
Not sure what Michkov is going to bring this season, but if he improves the PP and scores at a solid rate 5x5, this is a playoff team if they get average or better goaltending.
Thing is, Briere isn't trying to make the playoffs.
Didn't add any players other than AHL depth (Eklind, Abols, Richard).
Traded a 1st rd pick into 2025 instead of putting a package together for a center for 2024.
Going with two inexperienced goaltenders.
Think they figure either:
A) young players like Drysdale, Michkov, Brink, Foerster, Ersson step up, they make the playoffs, and are a good young team
B) the team falls short and they have a high 1st and 2nd rd pick to go with their other picks
