The Canadian Armed Forces have a city by city post living differential, and while it is only the cost of living in a city we could theoretically expand upon this for sports franchises. The factors in play:

1.) Federal Income Tax
2.) State/Provincial Income Tax
3.) Other taxes
4.) Cost of living
5.) Desired locations

It wouldn't take much work to create a list like the one below, to adjust each team's individual salary cap.

I think we should penalize Calgary, Edmonton since their players can buy vehicles with no sales tax.

I think we should penalize all Canadian teams since their players get currency conversion benefits being paid in USD.

Sounds like fun, let's do it.

I have never heard any team owner, player or agent pushing for this, so why are certain fans so adamant that it's even remotely likely to happen?

So
Nashville's Net Cap is 59.5 million
San Jose's Net Cap is 48.35 million

I didn't touch the Canadian teams due to getting paid in american dollars while living in canada.

USD v.s. CAD doesn't mean shit. It's not like something that costs $3CAD in Canada always costs $3USD in the US. All else equal, if USD -> CAD is a rate of 1.3, then your $3USD purchase in US would just be $3.9CAD in Canada.

The conversation about buying power between US and Canada is not about exchange rate, it's about cost of living, and I'd wager on average the cost of living where Canadian teams are located on average is greater than the cost of living where US teams are located. And that is in addition to generally having higher taxes.

You'll find out soon with all the people migrating to texas lol
I won't, ill be moving in a year to Colorado and will have to deal with taxes there. Although i understand the sales tax in Colorado is like half of what it is in Tx to help offset the state tax.

As a Toronto fan I would fully support some sort of modifier for tax jurisdictions in the next CBA.

Toronto gets told we can’t have our facilities open all summer to train prospects or use minor league refs at scrimmages because that is unfair to the other teams in the league, meanwhile Tampa getting 10-30% discounts on their signings and Bettman is like “this makes sense”

Why wouldn’t they be allowed to have their facilities open in the off-season for training?

other teams complained that the Leafs were using their facilities in the offseason to rehab injured vets and train rookies, especially those from foreign markets

the pit provisions into the cba that limits this because developing rookies in the offseason is something that only the leafs were doing

so yes I’m sick of being told that tax rates and more don’t matter but being told we can’t even use our practice facilities in the summer

Only way to do it fair is to factor in everything.

At the end of the year the league should calculate what each player has paid in: income tax, state tax, local tax, payroll tax, sales tax, capital gains tax, value-added tax, tangible personal property tax, intangible personal property tax, estate tax, use tax, gift tax, inheritance tax, corporate tax, excise tax, fuel tax, surtax, tariffs, temple tax, tithes, motor vehicle registrations, fees, fares, tolls, and any tips paid to a restaurant, valet, or hooker.

That’s crazy. I feel like if a prospect or player is affiliated with the franchise they should have access to the facilities 24/7

I can’t imagine every team doesn’t do this? Like the guys who stay home and live on Long Island during the summer I’m pretty sure they train at the isles practice facility

30%? Did you randomly come up with this number or you are really that bad at math?

I just want to take this time to thank the fans of the Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks for their relative stoicism in the Great Tax Debate.

This is just state income taxes. State income taxes that can be worked around with signing bonuses. Does not include city taxes or athlete taxes or property taxes or sales taxes or, or, or...and that just taxes never mind cost of living, etc.
trust me I kind of know that... having lived all across the country I can say a lot about what you've mentioned in your post. 75,000k in Vancouver aint the same money than 75,000k in NB
