What Draisaitl is doing this season across the board might make this the most impressive season after McDavids 153 this generation.
Drai is on a mission this year...if he keeps this up it could be one of the best seasons in the 2000s...has also a legit chance to sweep all awards...but lots of hockey left.

It will be the best season since last year as Kucherov and Mac were better.

None of both lead the league in goals or GWG or 5v5 goals or +/- or Top10 in takeaways or faceoffs won... literally the only stat they are projecting better are total points.
At this moment they will have a dozen more points...but to be fair if Drai is over 20 points behind then it's ok to also favor Kuch and MacK seasons from last year.
I think if Drai comes within 10-15 points and separates him more this year from the field it's a better overall season.

But we will see how the season ends...scoring is much lower this season somehow.

I am guessing Mac tilted the ice more for the Avs when he was on the ice vs. off the ice than Draisatl. Of course this has something to do with McDavid but it is relevant when discussing strengths of seasons.

Kucherov was 54 points clear of his teammate.

Both players face the other team's best matchup players too.

I voted Drai but I think it's any of those players except Matthews.

Nothing against Matthews, he's a great player and he's still building his legacy. But you can't ignore the playoffs and all those other players have been great in the postseason. Kucherov has two cups, Mackinnon and Makaar with one each. Drai has played as well as a player can in a losing cause.

Still lots of time for this to change. Matthews hasn't reached those heights yet but he could do it at any time. At this point in time though, he's just not in that other group.

Mack 24 GF at 5v5 was 45-32 (58%). Colorado was 196-168 (54%).

Drai 25 GF at 5v5 is 45-28 (62%). Oilers are 106-93 (53%).

Possession, and relative possession numbers also favour Draisaitl.

I don't know what this has to do with McDavid to be honest...he has already a higher ppg the last years with McDavid not playing...so if you want to say that he would be more dominant without McD than you are right.

I don't know who "melted" the ice more...depends on what you like in a player I guess.

And this matchup argument is not really a argument because you are also getting better players to play with...so it could also be vice versa depending on your teammates and the opposite players.

Give Drai a Marner and Rantanen/Point line, with Makar and/or Hedman feeding from the back and he would be even more productive.
