Any news about who is going to be an assistant coach? i did find Letestu’s name mentioned couple times to stay in position but nothing official yet. Any thoughts about name of other Vogelhuber assistant?
I'd prefer hiring someone who's known for developing defensemen à la Brad Shaw. Many of our D prospects such as Jiricek, Svozil, OJBH, Ceulemans etc. are about to take next steps in their career which means a lot of them could be spending time mostly in Cleveland over the next couple of years, and all they have behind the bench/in the staff are former mid-to-bottom line forwards. To be fair I know nothing about their expertise but at the same time I feel that adding an experienced defensive coach wouldn't hurt their group either.

Cant find any kind of news about it but it looks like they quietly hired Mike Haviland to be Monster’s Associate Coach, Mark Letestu to remain and Brad Thiessen as full time goaltender coach, based on CBJ official website. Also Jared Boll was officially added to CBJ coaching staff as full time Assistant Coach, Nicklas Backstrom and Craig Hartsburg joining Dorsett and Ruutu as Development Coaches and there is also couple of changes in scouting department.

Yeah it seems so. Kind of odd that they haven't made an announcement of it. Hopefully he'll be a great fit. I recognized the name and knew he had coached for the Hawks some while ago but other than that I have no prior knowledge of him or his coaching. Just stumbled upon this article on google (2010):

From ECHL to NHL, winning's all he knows - Ex-Trenton coach Haviland helped lift Blackhawks to Cup
"Havi's done a great job all year," said Quenneville. "He's done a great job with our special teams, particularly the penalty kill. He works the (defensemen). He changes them. He's been around all of our young guys. He was around these guys when they first turned pro. He still knows their habits up here, which helps me coach as well. He knows the ins and outs of these guys."

Good news, eh?

Is that Dorsett in the middle? I can't quite connect names with faces on the rest for some reason...

Unless that's Chaput on the right, but I hesitate to make that guess...

EDIT: After racking my brain for AHL notables around that time and doing a quick image search... is that Konopka on the left? And I might've guessed Mirasty above, but it can't be because that guy doesn't have a mohawk.

Just sort by PIMS.

Konopka, Mirasty, Dorsett, Sestito.

2007/08:

CBJ had Boll (75 games) Tollefson (51 games) Shelley (31 games)

Also interesting, Nash had 95 PIMs.

For a bit there Hitch got to Nash and Zherdev, and those guys were something to watch. Would have been nice to keep Zherdev around for longer and surrounded those guys with some better/more quality NHL players.

Zherdev and Nash with a real 1C in their prime would have been something.

To this day Zherdev is my favorite Jacket.

Gallant did score a career high 4 goals last year. Unfortunately he had no assists, so he missed his career high of 6 points. All kidding aside, he is very popular here, and seems like a good guy, so its a good sign for them. With the fighting toned down in the AHL, sometimes he looks sad when he is on the ice because no one wants to fight him, not that he doesn't try to instigate one.

My favorite memory of him was a few years back, I forget who they were playig, but he was going from player to player to start a fight. No one was willing, so finally he just took a run at the goalie so someone would step up. It worked perfect.

The article says Knazko "will join" the Monsters this year, OJBH and Svozil are "expected to join".

Edit. btw how is Monsters blueline looking right now? Is there any room for OJBH/Knazko/Svozil in 2022-23? They seem to have 7-8 defensemen still in the system who played in Cleveland last year.

Bayreuther
Bjork
Berni
Christiansen
Sweezey
are under NHL contracts according to capfriendly.

Clayton
Simpson
Leblanc
with AHL contracts according to EP. Idk which of these could be sent to ECHL.
Christiansen - Bjork
Svozil - Bayreuther
OJBH - Knazko
Berni - Clayton

Opinions, insights anyone? @Monstershockey ?

Edit. forgot Knazko

I don't like it.

Better to stay in junior and get top minutes and #1PP time then be bottom pair guys in the AHL.

This time he's putting junior prospects in the AHL early, my issue was that he was rushing prospects to the NHL early.

He's always rushed players to the NHL team here. But I'm all for these young guys playing in the AHL no matter if they're "ready" right now or not. And there are going to be other players joining them after camp cuts as everyone isn't going to make the NHL team. So this is a good thing for prospect development and for the Monsters if the CBJ would commit to using their AHL team more to develop their drafted prospects.

When you look at the last few years and the guys that were being called up from Cleveland, there really wasn't much coming in. Stenlund was ok, but you knew he wasn't an answer. Matteau, Sherwood, Thurkauf, Dalpe, etc., guys that just weren't that good, or were vets from other organizations, was about all they were able to bring up. Even last year, Gaunce was their most impactful call up. Tarasov was looking good until his injury, but now he is a question mark on whether he'll be ok. Cleveland needs better prospects coming in at the AHL level.

I agree I just don't think these 20 year olds are it yet. If they're on the team they'll play on the bottom pair and have little impact. They'll have more of an impact if they're in the AHL in another year or two.

One suspicion I've had about Jarmo is that he rushes his prospects because he thinks they're better than they are. Hurrying junior- eligible kids to the AHL does nothing to relieve that suspicion.
