The neckline, specifically, is interesting because it meshes with what was worn during the World Cup of Hockey, which was the first glimpse fans got of what Adidas jerseys may look like when they make their debut next season. The iconic brand designed jerseys for each of the tournament’s eight squads, and the Canadian, American, Finnish and Czech uniforms each had a similar design, with the block of color stopping midway through the collar instead of continuing down to the WCH logo. That is mimicked on the Penguins jersey, with the white portion of the collar stopping before it reaches the NHL logo.
I wonder how they're going to do our bottom stripes. On the World Cup jerseys the Adidas stripes broke up the large bottom stripe but didn't for the trim (we have the same setup on our home and aways but reversed colors).
You guys think Montreal, New York, Detroit or Chicago would ruin their classic jerseys with those stripes? I highly doubt they would.
If we take our current striping and design, and combine it with the adidas World Cup of Hockey template, we might get something like this. I wonder if we're going to have to redesign a little, like remove the shoulder stripes so it doesn't get too visually busy. I noticed all the World Cup of Hockey jerseys were much simpler:
Strange that it has the 100th patch on it since Adidas isn't doing this year's jerseys, but I wouldn't be shocked if they wound up looking very similar to that.
From what I hear, the NHL will continue to use the 100th Anniversary patch throughout the beginning of the 2017/18 season, so most likely the Adidas jerseys will indeed have the patch.
