A shorter Victor Hedman.

That's a pretty good comparison if you look at their development. Hedman's offensive game has really just started to show (in a full season he would be on pace for his first 30 point season), and he's in his fourth season in the NHL. Larsson is only in his second season. So it'll still be a few years before we know what he really is.

I think he's going to fall slightly short of our high expectations for him offensively. But I can see him being, at worst, a solid middle pairing D-man.

I hope he tops out and ends up being NJ's undisputed number 1 like we all thought he would, there was a reason why we were so excited to draft him

If Larsson ever gets PP time and its played with any sort of regularity I could see him getting maybe 5-7 goals a year with maybe 24-28 assists a year. He's not used on the power play because of Peter F'ing Harrold. C'mon man. Thats ridiculous.

Maybe it's because of the teams they play for, but I think Larsson's defensive game is already better than Hedman's. Offensively, Hedman is far ahead.

hedman is way better at this point in every way imo. he's probably the most underrated dman in the league.

Hedman's mainly employed to shutdown the top lines TBH. He's underrated.

exactly. if anything he's mastered his d game and needs to further develop offensively. i see franchise dman written all over him, im not so sure about larsson. the speed will really really hold him back if he doesnt improve. lets all hope he does. he has to right?

Since Volchenkov is suspended and Sally out, we are seeing the true potential of Adam Larsson IMO. He's a improving again, a lot. Without the fear to sit at the 1st mistake, Adam's more involved in the offensive game. I can see AL being as good as Hedman around 2015, since Adam is 2 full years younger than VH.

I actually really like how DeBoer and Stevens (previously Robinson) are teaching him. He'll never make it in the league with his skill set if he can't play strong defense. He isn't a pure offensive defenseman so he wouldn't make it as a 7th d-man/PP specialist. Let him refine his defensive game, which already looks outstanding (arguably, 2nd best after Greene) and he's only in his 2nd season. Next year hopefully we don't resign Zid, let Urbom make the team, and let Larsson unleash his offensive prowess and have him be the #1 PP QB with a strong defensive side....exactly like Lidstrom :X

Larsson-Merrill
Urbom-Gelinas/Severson
[3RD PAIRING] - (Greene, Fayne, Burlon, Scarlett, or Helgeson)

I see flashes of the top pairing defenceman from Larsson. The talent is clearly there. The consistency is what needs to get up to par, and that only comes with experience.

It also comes with not getting benched every other game.

Larsson is still only 20. Let that sink in for a moment. Guy has already played almost 100 games in this league. Let's revisit this discussion again in a few years.

I think we will be pleased with the status Larsson reaches at that point and what he means to our success. I'm very excited with what our defensive corps could look like in a few years with all the young guys coming in our system.

i cant believe the amount of times ive seen people hate on larssons shot. Thats baseless and flat out wrong. His shot is outstanding. Scouts said he had the best shot in his draft class.

His reluctancy to shoot is his problem, not the shot itself.

i also dont know why people think his speed is an issue. This isnt nhl13. You dont need to be a burner to be a good dman.

every time he winds up to shoot and theres no shin pads in his face, we generate our best chances of the night. His shot gets through traffic and his very accurate and deflectable

He's asking for his potential, so why do people keep saying they don't know or can't tell yet?

Anyways, judging from his play, he can be 40+ pt dman if he ever gets the chance.

That confuses me too. His shot is very tippable and generally pretty accurate. It's not a hard shot but it doesn't need to be for our purposes.

Thanks for all your feedback guys. All this being said, would you guys trade Larsson for someone like John Carlson? (an also young but fairly established D-man)? Or is Larsson's potential too great at this point?

if we were to trade Larsson it'd be for a top end forward

someone proposed Larsson for Eberle the other day and I would do that.

dont need to be a burner, but when youre barely faster than volchenkov u aint gonna be a top pairing dman unless youre a physical beast. kid needs to get faster to get to the next level thats pretty obvious to me.

Once the Devils take the leash off him we'll find out. - And if they don't, I expect a very reliable top 4 at the very least.
