He hasn't exceeded my expectations and he hasn't disappointed. He's been ok, which is pretty damn good for a 20 year old. Still needs to get faster, stronger on his skates, shoot more/harder, and gain somewhat of a nasty streak. Everything I listed is attainable with hard work and the right attitude, which is something he clearly has. I expect him to be our clear cut best defenseman within the next 2 or 3 years.

Adam racked up serious points in Albany. He has great passing skills; and don't people remember that incredible "keep-in" last year?

less mistakes but still under developed and did not gain enough size in off season, fails to recognize any sense of urgency.

considering we have enough defensemen the only reason he's playing is so we don;t lose him in free agency as he was a first round pick, considering they didn;t give him a signing bonus as th erest of the 1st rounder who started got one. I highly feel this is the only reason he is playing, although they recognize he should be down in ALbany.

um

Not only is your post just.. wrong, it's also factually incorrect. Rookies don't get signing bonuses, they get performance bonuses. Larsson didn't get any, but that doesn't mean he was underpaid relative to his peers.. as many of them likely didn't even hit their performance bonuses.

Larsson deserves to be in this line-up so much so that a pretty good defensemen in Fayne is riding the pine.

Ok let me clear that up. As speculated! There was discussion about how he did not get those performance bonuses or what have you compared to the other top picks. That was my opinion, I have yet to be proven wrong! So you're wrong. They also gave way that perhaps they rushed Matteau this year (maybe because he was their first rounder?) wish shows theyre being more aggressive with the young guys. I think he's good enough to play up here now, but he should be in Albany where he can better develop. I fear he's going to end up like Paul martin, weak and under performing. Time will tell.

wouldn't be surprised if Gelinas and Urbom come up next yr and succeed more than he does.

I want to him skate the puck more like he did when he got hit by Subban that one time. He doesn't do it much if at all since then.

What are you babbling about with free agency? He doesn't go UFA for 5 completed seasons AFTER this one.

And he gets paid exactly the same as the top 3 picks in the draft, same downside, same NHL salary. Only difference is if the other have attainable bonus money, and not just dead cap space.

If you're going to state that your opinion is correct, then you should probably state your opinion at some point. Because the bolded is just a bunch of words strung together that make absolutely no sense.

It's pretty obvious why he didn't get those performance bonuses. Because they would have tripled his cap hit and made it hard for him to make the team last year given our cap situation.

He's learning to be responsible defensively, not turning into a defensive defence-man IMO. He's producing at ES, especially compared to his teammates. He's very young, Adam's going to be an all-around defence-man step by step.

Exactly. I don't think the development of his offensive game will be stifled at all. The defensive side is more important to the Devils right now.

The overwhelming majority of Devils fans are reasonably pleased with his development, I'd say.

Right now he's making the safe play ALL the time. It hurts to watch, but you know it's better for him in the end. The fact that he NEVER takes a risk anymore is almost unbelievable, considering his age/experience and the skill we saw flashes of last year. His consistency has been unbelievable for a 20 year old.

Larsson, Fayne, Salvador, and Greene are our only defensemen who have consistently started most of their shifts in the defensive zone. He and Greene also have the best ratio of defensive zone starts to offensive zone finishes. Seeing him relied on like that by this coaching staff is a real good sign for his future.

Let preface my comments by saying I understand he has a lot of developing to do and he still has much untapped potential.

That being said, I don't like where he is on his development curve. From last season to this one I've seen little improvement. While his game does seem a bit more refined and he isn't wondering lost like he was for stretches last season, none of his skills seem to have improved much.

The thing is, he does nothing exceptionally well....as far as offensively or defensively...he does pass the puck extremely well but I would like to see that utilized more. I think we're probably going to need to wait at least another 2 years before we see what Larsson really is, but right now I would like to see more because I haven't seen anything that would indicate that this is a special player so far.

Remember this game when everyone was expecting Josefson to be the second-line center, Larsson was gonna be our savior on the powerplay, and Henrique "maybe looked like he'd be a good fit on the third line?" Fat lotta good that did us.

I'm really liking Larsson. He could hit the net from the point and create rebounds for the forwards down low. Defensively, he's very good man-to-man. He has very good chemistry with his defensive partner Andy Greene. In the defensive zone the two of them seem to work well behind the net at creating takeaways. He's also a good passer, but that skill is still developing. He definitely hasn't reached his ceiling offensively, but he shows a lot of promise.

To me, Larsson's value shows on the breakout. He is always calm, and almost always make the right decision. He can make the stretch passes, as well as the short dumps. I never worry about the breakout when it's Larsson-Greene running it.
