Hyman signing set the great footmarks.

He left money on the table.
Then Nuge left money on the table.
Now Henrique left money on the table.
Stetcher could have got better offer elsewhere.
Most likely Brown could have also done better elsewhere, moneywise.

Hopefully Draisaitl and #97 can also do so, then we might have winner team for 4-6 years from now. Can seriously compete with anyone.

I love the situation and would want to hug Hyman for the things he have done for this hockey club.

I have a feeling the big boys will. I remember a interview not that long ago where Connor was praising nuge and particularly the fact that he left money on the table to stay a Oilers with that group.

This trade and signing is one of the worst moves in Oilers history. Trading a 1st for him was bad enough without context, then you add in the huge opportunity cost for our Stanley Cup run when we got this loser instead of an actual impact top 6 forward or top 4 dman. Then along with Skinner and Arvidsson, costed us a number of our speedy players with upside in spite of their warts like Holloway, Broberg, McLeod, and Foegele. He is not a NHL caliber player and is probably the worst dollar-for-dollar player on the Oilers since post-injury DoD era Horcoff.

Looks like absolute dogshit out there. Is he even trying? Lot of posts in this thread aging terribly.

Henrique has been awful. He is cooked as a player, but he is a player with good hockey IQ that has been stuck playing with trash line mates most of the year. This doenst help....

Whatever Rico has left in him, it may help to play with someone else that is smart with the puck and can make plays.
(not Connor Brown)

Henrik and Ekholm were beastly last playoffs.

But their play this year signals if we don't win the cup this year (looking unlikely) it's unlikely we win a cup with these guys on the roster.

IMO he would still be playable at 4C next year. Very low event minute waster. Hard to imagine the salary structure would be accommodating of that.

That said, I for one am completely unsurprised that this board immediately forgot how much it hated Ryan McLeod.

Ryan McLeod sucks and is one of the softest players to ever wear an Oilers uniform. Too many people look back fondly on players with rose coloured glasses once they're gone. McLeod has the balls of a church mouse and accomplished absolutely nothing here. It is severely incorrect to look back upon him as "the one that got away". Utterly useless player for a team that has Cup aspirations. Full stop.

Henrique was always meant to be a bottom 6 C. The issue is we paid a 1st for him and also re-signed him to 3M x years. If we extended him to 2M, no one would be complaining. He's also the type of player you want for the playoffs. These older guys know much much they have in the tank, they're not going to use all of it in the season and have nothing left for the playoffs.

You may want to compare boxcars. Pretty hard to say McLeod brings less than Henrique does. With a straight face anyway.

Agreed--

As much as I am disappointed with the free agent signings these older guys try and pace themselves (which I understand) but the problem is that there are at least 6 guys who are now on the "pacers" page and it is really starting to show. Perry, Henrique, J. Skinner, Arvie, Brown, Ryan (now departed-sort of), RNH (I know, sacrilege to say this) Kane (if he returns this season) are all on the down slope. I'm sure they will be better in the playoffs but the playoffs are not guaranteed. Mc-Drai will have to carry them there.

The guy that was supposed to help with the offense and relief some load is Jeff Skinner. He's hasn't lived up to his deal. At least not yet. The biggest add after a starting goalie, IMO, is another top 6 player to carry the baggage when McDavid and Drai aren't feeling it in those games. The rest of the guys seem to comfortable in pacing themselves for the playoffs, McDavid included.

Boxcars on a shit Buffalo team mean absolutely nothing. Watching that muppet twinkle toe his way around the ice while blowing snow and avoiding contact like the plague. Literally nothing of value was lost getting rid of that p***y of a player. Nothing. McLeod brings less than any player in the league to a team with Cup aspirations. Empty calorie bullshit secondary assists on an ass team like Buffalo notwithstanding. Addition by subtraction with this figure skating legend.

So, I guess I can't sell you his rookie card?
