Value of: Adam Fox

For starters, it takes a weak point of the Ranger roster and makes it even weaker. For Fox the first would not be protected. And Peterka is a fine piece, but not to make up the difference between Fox and Power.
Fox is also signed for another 4 seasons, in his prime, at a reasonable contract.

A move for Fox needs to hurt. Does this offer hurt for a team like Buff? Does this offer convince the Rangers to trade him? I don't think so.
So we lose out on a top 5 pick
Our 2nd best Dman (also young and on a long term contract)
arguably our best winger

and get the privilege of Dahlin, Fox, and Byram cannibalizing each other's PP effectiveness by stealing ice time from each other...

Yeah it'd hurt....

Not really even trying to argue because I have no interest in trading for Fox anyways.

I'd just rather get some defensive top 4 RDs and trade core assets into top 6 C and probably top 6/9 F.

He wouldn’t waive so it’s moot. He already forced himself to the rangers. It’s not like it was an east coast thing or not wanting to play in Canada because he wouldn’t go to Carolina after the flames moved him there either
His NMC doesnt kick in until July 1, 2025. There's still time!

If you really believe that Fox would be competing for PP time with Byram, it's for the best you have no interest.

The offer would be fine if it wasn't for a star player, in his prime, signed long term. There are less than a handful of Adam Fox's in the league. He's 1 of 3. Playing one of the most difficult positions to find in the NHL. The Sabre's wouldn't be trading for a top pairing dmen. They would be trading for a top-3 dmen in the league.
At 28 years old, Karlsson fetched a 1st (unprotected), high end prospect (Norris), plus Tierney / Balcers and Demelo,.. I think at the time Balcers was viewed as young and had potential, can't remember how Tierney/Demelo were viewed. Karlsson had to be one of, if not the top D, at the time.

To be fair, Karlsson was not signed to a long-term deal. Fox still has term left, so not 1-to-1 comparable. Although OTT let teams talk contract extensions with him prior to trading, so while Karlsson might not have been signed, I doubt SJS makes the deal if they talked w/ him and left not confident he'd resign.

Again, not a 1-to-1 comparable, but it's not that far off.

1 of 3 what? Dont you dare put him any convo with Makar! Fox is the smartest guy in the league. He is not: a good skater (under statemet), tough to play against, physical, robust, etc. He has good offensive tools. There are 5 defenders easily I would consider before him to play to win a cup and when you add $9.5M x 4 more years. Not a luckier team in the league to have that stuck on them.

No but it would neuter one of Byram's best qualities and values for us and since it's doubtful we run 2 defensemen on PP 1 it also forces you to decide between Dahlin and Fox there which even if you're correct and Fox is better now also neuters Dahlin's value as well....

It's not about pride or pounding your hest for YOUR player it's about being a terrible fit.

Karlsson was 2 years older, with a lot more mileage, and a pending UFA with concerns about his longevity. Very different circumstances.

Stuck with him? Do you realize how dumb that sounds? He's won a Norris and he's also been a finalist. Fox is the least of our concerns. Your biasness is obviously distorting things here.

To be fair, in regards to your starting point, the offer was made without knowledge of what NYR would be looking for (1st sentence in OP was "What are you looking for?"). So to me, that would indicate the offer was only taking the value of assets into consideration, not team needs.

For the 1st rounder, I talked about the Karlsson deal above being similar. While SJS wasn't expected to be a lottery pick, the 1st they offered was unprotected... so I guess you could argue that.

And the value Power offers isn't going to be the same as what Fox brings to the table, so I wouldn't judge Power based on his ability to lead the D on NYR in points. Power's also signed for the next 6 seasons, so that's a win for NYR - especially w/ the cap rumors going around.

Regardless, it's fine if you feel this offer would never be accepted - and you might be right. But the offer is respectable value wise, relatively speaking this doesn't come close to the other "laughable" offers we see on HFBoards.

I watch too many of your games (unfortunately), I see alot of AF without the Rangers homer glasses on. Dumb? I said he's the smartest guy in the league! He is everything I said he is. He was terrible vs us in playoffs 2 yrs ago. He's got 2 Gs this year. May be the worst skater in the league. He's great when the PP is clicking and then he's not elsewise. Once Lindgren is moved you better find somebody to take all the work he did to cover for him in the heavy/grit/board dept. Adam Fox and his contract towards the end is terrible. I'm happy he is in NY, trust me!

He's tied for fourth in assists by a d-man, just one behind Makar and three behind Hughes who leads the league. Less than half of his points come on the PP. He's not the worst skater in the league, Jason Robertson is. Lindgren is a corpse. Go find a bridge to sleep under.
