Confirmed with Link: Adam Foote Named Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks

Yes, I do feel Rutherford and Allvin are light years ahead of Benning, Weisbrod, and company. Are they perfect? No. But by and large, I have found them to be superior in almost every single facet of managing the team than their predecessors.

That's only one element. If the Pettersson-Miller thing hadn't imploded and the Canucks weren't dogshit this season, he'd probably have stayed regardless. Organization is a gongshow, I think even if the Philly job wasn't open he'd have gone somewhere else.
Yes

All the elements were in play when Torts was fired and at that moment, Toccs being the next HC of Philly was a fait accompli

Was Rick Tocchet really the home run coaching hire some people on here make him out to be? We had 2 full seasons under him, one admittedly was really good, but the other was a straight up disaster. On top of it, some of the most boring hockey I can remember a team (that's supposed to be a playoff team) has played.
Think Foote had a big impact on d teamwise and the kids can he take that another step we get to see .
Who he brings as assistants will be interesting like Footer let's see what he does

I’m personally indifferent about this signing. I would have preferred Malhotra, but that didn’t happen. I try to consider both the positives and negatives of everything. I don’t know much about Foote, but as a player, he was the best shutdown defenseman of his generation, making Team Canada for the 1996 World Cup and the Olympics in 1998 and 2002. He’s also played under some legendary coaches, including Joel Quenneville, Jacques Martin, Ken Hitchcock, Pat Quinn, and Marc Crawford.

Contrary to what many were saying [that Foote will be the same hardass on EP as Tocchet was]: Hughes make it sound like it will be the opposite.

Anyone who thinks EP needs a less hardass coach next year; well Foote is your man.
That's good to hear, where did Hughes say this?

That's the impression I had of Foote based on some player interviews as well, including Hughes. He talked about him being a great teacher and treating the players with the same level of respect he would his kids (paraphrasing, can't remember exact quote). He's obviously only been in assistant role at pro level, but it sounds like he's a players coach. I also think it's short sighted to believe that he's going to be a less experienced version of Tocchet.

Similar to many here, I was a very big fan of Foote as a player. He's a proven winner and leader. He has also been instrumental in improving our defensive systems already. While i hoped for Malholtra I think Foote can be a good fit for several reasons, especially if surrounded by the right support personnel.

Manny will be ready to take over when Foote fails....no more than 2 years away.....and the Sedin's will also be ready by then. That could easily be the time Rutherford also moves along. Nice to have Manny in the system doing a good job and patiently waiting his turn...which will come.

I suggest everybody to go watch this first
and then, after you watch that, go watch this immediately after.

The most fascinating part of this was when he talked about leadership about 3/4 of the way through.

It is funny how everyone (myself included) assumes Foote needs help to coach offence.

Tocchet and Jacques Lemaire are two of the best offensive players to have decently long coaching careers and both were heavily defensively oriented.

Maybe Foote is an offensive savant?

Skip to 3:10 on the vid.

Good to hear tbh. Didnt see this before. He does transition into talking abt Toch and Foote together in that though in being teachers etc, so hard to delineate the two but what he says here is what youd want in a coach for sure. Not that Manny would bully people or anything either.

Cautiously optimistic, excited to see who he names for assistant coaches.

we all know tochett left behind big boots to fill and that adam only got the job because tochett helped him get his foote in the door. but maybe behind the scenes adam has already put his best foote forward because tochett may well have had one foote out the door for much of last season after the miller trade.

i do get though that there are doubts whether adam can start off on the right foote. some say his signing is a symptom the team is working on a shoestring budget, but i wonder about that because ultimately the team wants results so aquaman has to foote the bill one way or the other. if the team loses its footing under adam then aquaman will be footing the bill for two coaches in no time

i for one am glad adam gets a chance to come out from tochett's shadow to stand on his own two feet. maybe we should give him a chance to find his feet and wait until we have all walked a mile in his shoes and then we will see if the other shoe drops.

Besides the endorsement from Hughes, I think one of the biggest reasons they went with Foote, is his ability to mold defenseman.

The Canucks have a dynamic young blueline, which will anchor the team moving forward. And a guy like Foote is just the guy to help them continue their upward trajectory.

As far as up front, line matching, PP etc......maybe they need to find an assistant who can work with the forward group. I wouldn't mind seeing Mike Yeo return--but I believe he's under contract elsewhere.

need someone who can coach offense
Why can’t Foote? Guy played for Colorado and just because he played defence means nothing. He should know how to break down defences and played for team Canada that was loaded with offence. In my eyes someone of his stature who was a top 3 defensive Dman would be able to break down a defence knowing what they focus on.
