Confirmed with Link: Adam Foote Named Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks

Not a big fan of this

Malhotra was a slam dunk to turn the page on what went down here.

Foote as the coach of the D would have been ok

Obviously staying would have been great but i can see how as an older guy he might have not wanted that and left.

Think we missed an opportunity here to become more progressive creative/offensive and foster a new beginning with more runway from an internal hire

Edit: also not sure that Foote is a good front man communicator and that may have some media issues.....but maybe that's just the lack of having to be that guy...we'll see

Haven't read the thread so I'm probably repeating lots of other posters, but wouldn't have been my first choice. I'm generally not a fan of promoting assistants to the top job as I believe the relationships are too different and doesn't usually work. But WPG is showing this isn't a law of physics or anything.

Also don't love his resume. Think Manny was the better option.

But I didn't love the Tocchet hire, and this regime has earned the benefit of the doubt with coaching hires. Looking forward to seeing how this works out.

I don't mind it. Foote is a great leader and a champ as a player. Really I don't know if experience is the leading factor in NHL coaching jobs. Most of the experienced guys are washed up bums anyway. I see a lot of experienced coaches come out of nowhere.

Whom he hires as assistants is going to be vital. Hopefully he doesn't have a Benning do it yourself attitude. Experience in an assistant is very important in my mind.

Of course there will be critical jackasses with no clue as to what they're complaining about. We as fans really don't know anything about Foote or how he will be as a coach.

Of course there will be critical jackssses
Would it have been nice to have someone with Pro HC exp vs just WHL exp? Yes. But, he's been a pro assistant HC for 2.5 years now. And was a top level NHLer as well.

Seen some ahl hc promoted in recent years and not a boatload of success for them.

Maybe the strategy is to just leave Petey alone. If 18 months of solid coaching and teammate peer pressure didn't "crack the nut", maybe just leaving the guy the f*** alone will help. I bet they trade him this summer anyway.

Yeah. Solid coaching, but trying to completely change the way a player has been successful is sometimes not the best way to go. My only fear is that Foote was part of the coaching group that decided it was a smart thing to do in the first place.

I also feel like this management team is just itching to trade EP40.

meh.

would’ve preferred Manny, but it’s hard to evaluate coaches and we have no insight into how the interviews went. Maybe Foote will be good, maybe he’ll be bad. His season as a head coach in junior certainly isn’t very inspiring, but people are able to grow and learn from their mistakes, and the players on the team clearly love him.

Hope they’re planning to bring in an assistant who specializes more in generating offense.

No one should really have much of an opinion on this to be honest. If they weren't going with experience then no matter who they bring in has similar question marks, Malhotra included.

Only thing we can do is see what sort of plan and style he brings. One good thing is that there is little doubt he has been a big part of some player improvements. So has Malhotra of course but is what it is. Time will tell.

Because this city is full of a bunch of miserable people who are mortgaged up to the eyeballs, overweight, stuck in traffic in a city of 4 million with two lanes from Horseshoe Bay to Hope, listejing to meat puppets like Sekeres and JPat, eating entirely too many Big Macs, the hockey team sucks and we have a beer league soccer team playing with a beer league football team in an eyesore of a dump of a dome and a transit system that was outdated in 1986.
For the record. I'm just husky and I'm on my way to work on my ab shelter ....in a bit. I'll ride my bike there and hail a cab home.

On one hand, it would've been very nice to have Manny up in the NHL with some solid vets to shift the tone in the locker room. On the other, some consistency and continuity in terms of messaging and structure is important - let's hope Foote can continue with the work on D and get some more offense out of the group.

If the Willie/Benning hirings don't sum up the misery of being a Canucks fan in a nutshell, I don't know what else would.

For one brief moment, it seemed the stars had aligned as we landed both the top head coach candidate on the market, and the top GM candidate/scouting wizard on the market. Only for both of them to reveal themselves to be bumbling imbeciles that made meals out of ordinary sentences and couldn't find their own asses with both hands and a flashlight.
Mr C. You are a quality contributor in many ways. Do you feel the current regime is as inept as the circus that oteceded them. I feel we've went from gas huffers to at least boozers running the show.

Hire Krazy George. He's our mascot.
Punch Maclean as coach. Bill Laforge's son as ASST.
Brian Burke as GM, Kalli Quinn as AGM
Ron Delorme and Craig Coxe as enforcers.
Can't chirp Stan- feel his pain

On a serious note why are guys like Rierden and Dave Lowry not getting a job?

Hm. Most of the dmen seemed to respond well to working with Foote, including the younger ones, so there's hope. My concern is that he just copy/pastes what Tocchet was doing, and it's a massive fail if that happens. Shot volume absolutely NEEDS to go up, especially from the forwards. I can only hope Foote is reading this...

My initial gut reaction was disappointment - what about the offense?

Loved Foote's work as defense coach, but Manny Malhotra was the possible spark we needed for more exciting, up-tempo offense.

Happy for Hughes and the other players who really like Foote. There may be some critical value in having a coach who was there last year and knows the score, so to speak, with the player dynamics.

Good luck to Foote as HC. Hope he gets good ACs. Hope we don't lose Manny (or maybe we already have).

A 3 year contract for Foote, basically means, come 2027, the team has to decide to extend him or terminate him. So, he gets 2 years, or basically til the end of Hughes contract.

I dont listen to radio but I see him on TV all the time. Honestly for a smart good looking guy youd think theyd have found a way to keep him moving up.
I fully see him taking over from iMac, when iMac retires from blowing sunshine up our asses

iMac, Sats, I know you read this. It's ok, I love you more than anyone
