they made this decision with everything on the line, if it doesn't work they will probably lose their jobs. Let's hope they know wtf they are doing and so far they have been 1/1 when it comes to coaching hire and JR has a track record of getting success out of converting assistant to head.I just never get good vibes from promoting an assistant when a successful coach leaves, and it rarely seems to work out well.
Friedman said the other day that Gallant or Laviolette would definitely take another coaching gig to prove they were better than what happened in NYR, and I think either would take the risk here.I prefer Malhotra given the choice of former teammates but some familiarity and continuity isn't a bad thing I guess. Said this before, you're not getting an experienced coach (who isn't close to retirement) to come here on a 2-3 year contract.
For some reason I thought Foote had more coaching experience. I thought he coached with Tocchet in Arizona.
Can they not bring Manny on as a assistant. Get rid of the other 2..Hopefully Adam goes a more offensive route then what Rick did..if he doesn't this team is going to flounder.
Adam Foote Named Head Coach
- Is a three year contract
- He understands the chaos and drama from the past season and how to handle the issues that can arise from it
- Had good interviews and was fully prepared in his interviews
- Canucks wanted “an entry level guy” for the next head coach
The other thing I wonder is if this is an opening for management to have more say in what would typically be coaching decisions.
You’re seeing that more now in other sports, and I expect it’d be hard to implement with an experienced coach.
I wouldn’t be surprised if management didn’t see eye to eye with Tocchet on his usage of certain players and want more control.
If the bolded was the case, I don't think they would have offered him a 4 year contract that made him one of the highest paid coaches in the league.
