Confirmed with Link: Adam Foote Named Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks

They wanted maximum continuity from a completely disjointed, dysfunctional, and disappointing season.

Yeah, I think we can question their judgement on this one.
well what worked in the last 2 years was 1) defensive structure and 2) PK.

choosing foote is basically them electing to keep those 2 things moving forward. Now offense generation is the biggest issue and I wonder if they will get an associate/assistant to address that.

At a high level, being a head coach is about managing personalities vs Xs and Os and if Hughes is on board then that should make managing personalities easier and Foote you can argue he is very competent if not really good when it comes to Xs and Os on the defensive end so that should give us a high floor.

We know how it unfolds. It’s not gonna be successful. Canucks doing the opposite of what seems to be the right choice literally never works

Eh, fans here were throwing a party when we beat out other suitors for Willie and had a collective tantrum when Tocchet was hired.

I just never get good vibes from promoting an assistant when a successful coach leaves, and it rarely seems to work out well.

At 4 nations it was Foote that Hughes said was his best coach ever not Tocchet.

Looking forward to clesrly offensive minded people
Because this city is full of a bunch of miserable people who are mortgaged up to the eyeballs, overweight, stuck in traffic in a city of 4 million with two lanes from Horseshoe Bay to Hope, listejing to meat puppets like Sekeres and JPat, eating entirely too many Big Macs, the hockey team sucks and we have a beer league soccer team playing with a beer league football team in an eyesore of a dump of a dome and a transit system that was outdated in 1986.

lmao

If the Willie/Benning hirings don't sum up the misery of being a Canucks fan in a nutshell, I don't know what else would.

For one brief moment, it seemed the stars had aligned as we landed both the top head coach candidate on the market, and the top GM candidate/scouting wizard on the market. Only for both of them to reveal themselves to be bumbling imbeciles that made meals out of ordinary sentences and couldn't find their own asses with both hands and a flashlight.

I prefer Malhotra given the choice of former teammates but some familiarity and continuity isn't a bad thing I guess. Said this before, you're not getting an experienced coach (who isn't close to retirement) to come here on a 2-3 year contract.

This is such a Canuck Fan response. Can we wait till he blows it with the team before we run him out of town. I think Foote did good as an assistant year so he deserves a chance. If not, dump him to the curb - can't be an any worse year than this already and if it appeases Quinn all the good. You can't replace a guy like that.
I have hopes for ownership. With defense focus we'll actually make the playoffs now like he wants so bad. We won't get anywhere, but at least we'll make the playoffs.

Best we can hope for now is EPSr for Selke.

With the way these playoffs are going, the trend with goalies is now going to be tandems which we got. Demko has no trade value thanks to his injuries and he's still the better goalie. And we'll need Lankenin because of that fear, so we're set in that category.
Foote’s hire blows more than Riley Reid before she decided to leave her “career” and start a family.

That’s true, but a big part of it was also Mike Johnston being the runner-up—no one wanted him. Plus, over the last decade, they’ve made so many poor decisions that everyone assumed would backfire. (They all backfired)

Can't say I'm overly thrilled with this decision despite Hughes' endorsement. That's about the only thing keeping me in the "whelmed" territory instead of being outright disappointed.

Manny not only has a better resume, but I think could bring some of that excitement back into the team. I guess time will tell what Foote does. I don't necessarily dislike him, I'm just worried about his lack of experience.

Not to mention, it really sounds like a somewhat panic decision. We lost the bride and settled for the Bridesmaid.

Foote always seemed like the smart one between him and Tocchett. I don’t know how people here can possibly evaluate the coaching candidates, outside of how smart they come across. Tochett always sounded not too intelligent.

I didn't mind the Willie Desjardins hire since he had a decent resume and seemed to be a decent X's and O's coach. He just had no idea how to effectively match lines and load manage certain players. I would argue that Travis Green was way worse since we knew what we had the AHL level, and it was very clear goaltending was carrying his ass.

Oh, I'm not saying Green was great either. But it was just the dramatic irony of all of us being jacked to finally land the top candidates available for two key positions, only for them both to be colossal failures.

The bolded is actually how I look at most coaching candidates. The only way we, as fans, can judge them is based on their results. Foote has pretty much no results so we have to go by secondary characteristics. However, I find the vast majority of fans have no idea how to evaluate coaches. They don't understand systems, they don't understand role differentiation, they don't understand internal dynamics, relationships, etc. There's a lot of information we're missing and a massive lack of knowledge.

This is why I tend to not get too high or too low on coaching hires. I'm just not confident in my own ability to evaluate effectiveness beyond results.

i wasn't a quinn doomer before but i think i am now. this hire makes zero sense unless they're scrambling to convince him to stay
If it does accomplish that (getting Hughes extended), then the hire is already a success in my eyes even if the on-ice performance isn't very good.

Honestly without Quinn this team is easily a bottom 10 team (maybe even bottom 5), and with the way we draft, our lotto luck and our asset management, any rebuild will certainly be 5+ years (if it is successful at all, which is no guarantee). Better off being a perpetual bubble team with one superstar player, than the next Buffalo Sabres.

I dont listen to radio but I see him on TV all the time. Honestly for a smart good looking guy youd think theyd have found a way to keep him moving up.
i meant it as, he works in a dying medium so yeah he probably knows whatever he does there has already plateaued.
