Confirmed with Link: Adam Foote Named Head Coach of the Vancouver Canucks

I hate this.

I love Quinn Hughes but Quinn Hughes should not be making coaching decisions for this team.
Its familiarity while they go through a transition. Because he got fired in Kelowna years ago. The head coach is more the facilitator and communicator. This team needs some stability. Pull Manny up and hire a good veteran assistant or three.

People are so f***ing negative in this town.

Wow. Circling the drain. Guy has never even really been a professional head coach and was terrible when he was in the WHL.

Did they even interview anyone? Doesn't really seem like it. I guess they figured nobody, not even Manny, really wanted the Canucks gig.

The process seems very tokenish ... I assume only Foote and Malhotra were really ever under consideration.

there was that weird report that malhotra may not even want the vancouver job a few weeks ago. pittsburgh and chicago have both been very quiet with regards to their vacancies i wonder if he's already lined up for one of those

Maybe I'll be totally wrong, but this reminds me of Rick Ley replacing Pat Quinn or Dave Lewis replacing Scotty Bowman in Detroit.

Some guys are just 'good hockey' guy assistant coaches who thrive in that role but lack the personality and X-factor to be quality NHL head coaches, and this is especially highlighted when one of them follows behind someone who was a legitimately dynamic personality. Foote strikes me like this.

And as someone noted above, the only real silver lining to Tocchet leaving was that maybe a fresh start with new coaches could unlock Pettersson. Instead we're going back to essentially the same thing.
