I'm anticipating Ryan Miller eating up half of our available cap space. It'll be grand.

I think I read rumors we are looking for a starter.

If true, that makes me wonder if Trotz and Korn know the full story about Oates's meddling last year, or may have chosen to minimize it when grading Braden.

I played forward so I know defense, which means I know goaltending.

Caps Insider has said Bmac is set on Holtby as the starter, so a vet backup is more likely. Bmac is also looking for 1-2 solid vet blueliners. Trotz has talked about Green as though they're going to work together to get him on track this season so unless his tires are being pumped he's probably not trade-bait until the TDL, as expected by some of us.

And honestly, for those saying Green was going to be traded at the draft, look at the return Neal got and the kinds of trades that happened and imagine what Green would have fetched...not much, imo. He needs a strong season with few or zero injuries to restore his value relative to salary.

Here is how Tuesday will go for Cap fans. Everyone knows we need Dmen, 2C and a veteran goalie. What will get is, not even close to making this team better. Count on it, it happens every year Cap fans.

Don't take Tuesday off from work, it would be will be a wasted sick/vacation day.

Yeah save that sick day for weds after you find out we yet again didn't fill any needed holes.

Does the drafting of a goalie, trading for another, and Mac saying he wants to sign a veteran backup make Grubauer trade bait right now? I would be all for it if so. Grubauer has a ton of potential and would help in the big return of a defenseman or center. I think it would also be good for Holtby's confidence to know that this is his team and there won't be anyone being called up from the AHL when you have one bad game. Grubauer Bowey/Barber and MOJO/Brouwer is a damn good package in my opinion

I would anticipate that the Caps want a veteran back up to spell a healthy Holtby, but NOT to be the backup starter. Grubauer would be the backup starter.

Meaning if the Caps have a back to back and 3 games in 4 nights, Peters would play one game. But if Holtby was injured and going to miss 3 or more games, Grubauer would be called up and get those starts with Peters remaining the backup.

I'd rather move Mojo and Legwand (as I noted at the bottom).

I think they could get a better return for Mojo (a pick or prospect perhaps) compared to trash for Erskine. Erskine is fine for a 7th/8th D, but I like the idea of keeping him and Hillen around as a complete 4th pairing for practice/injuries.

This is all good and I'll also be content if our personnel shakes out like this except for two things. 1 - there's going to be a bidding war for Niskanen so I don't think he'll land here unless we overpay. 2 - I'd rather see Wilson get top 6 this year.

That looks like a team primed to make the postseason in the final days of the season and then lose in 5 games.

Matt Niskanen playing ahead of not only Mike Green, but John Carlson as well? :biglaugh:

I really don't get the desire to sign Niskanen to a $6M+ contract to be our 3RD and get no powerplay time while the team is healthy. I'd rather have Dennis Wideman back.

When I watched the Rangers and Kings....I saw two teams with 6 defenders that could all play 20 minutes if they needed to. I don't care if Carlson plays more one night or Niskanen the next or Green the next. Just that they have a full six defenders that can all play. No weakness within any of the pairings.

You want Carlson playing more or Green playing more. Sure! I dont care. As long as the defense as a whole is better, I dont give a **** who plays more minutes or who is considered the #1 pairing.
