About that diving stuff (compared to FIFA)

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

The NLH ain't got nothing on the FIFA World Cup. The FIFA guys barely touch and both go down writhing in pain like they were cut apart while attacking a machine gun bunker and of course begging for a call. The referees seem to ignore it all, but it is really annoying. Hockey has diving, but very little in comparison.

Still an issue that needs addressed in hockey, regardless of FIFA. Some of it being missed game-to-game is understandable in the regular season, it's a fast game on ice, but it cannot happen in the playoffs. Whatever method is needed to address it in the playoffs, and penalize diving, I will support.

Agree. Wouldn't bother me if the NHL reviewed the film after games and assessed 1-period suspensions for diving, and progressively longer suspensions for serial diving by some players.

It honestly makes it totally unwatchable, I don’t get how they are unashamed
Someone a long time ago who played soccer explained to me that it's simply part of the game, like it's just part of playing soccer. You pass the ball, you shoot the ball, you dribble the ball, you dive. It's just something you do. I think maybe the equivalent would be like net front scrums or scrums after whistles in hockey. It's just something that is part of the sport. I don't know, maybe he didn't know what he was talking about, perhaps actual soccer players can chime in.

Watched a few games with groups and the diving and exaggerated shin injuries every 30 seconds is all anyone can talk about.

It's just distracting, how did that get to be the normal way to react.

The second biggest issue with it in the NHL after the general non-enforcement is the unwillingness to ONLY call the dive when it is plainly clear there wasn’t an infraction in the first place

Diving/embellishment really needs to be a double minor (assuming it would even be called by the officials...game management doncha know...). There often is a legitimate penalty that led to the dive. However if the only downside to diving is that you 'might' get an offsetting penalty, may as well try it.

Putting your team on the PK rather than a PP... yeah, the coach probably won't be too impressed with you.

Culture. Players accept it, managers accept it, fan accept it...

I enjoy soccer but as soon as a player does fast, I chsnge the channel

I recsll in one book I read Argentina was the first to use it as a tactic. So never cheer for Argentina

One time in soccer there was a guy who dived and then when on the ground, he checked to see if the ref was watching, it was unbelievable:

On YouTube you can find some crazy shit.

Players literally grabbing an opponent's arm and hitting themselves with the opponent's arm.

It boggles my mind thst this is the culture if a professional sport and a sport thst is the most populsr in the world

Seems to happen at least once every 3 minutes of play, and no matter how obvious the dive was then half the crowd boos the non-call.

I’ve been a hockey fan most of my life. I’ve never said go f*** yourself as much as I have since all three of my kids started playing soccer. It’s a sport that just brings drama. It’s as fast as hockey with no retaliation allowed other than scoring. Tensions build fast and the idiot refs have to take the brunt of it and divers I think should be crucified, mocked, shamed, made to walk in traffic.
