For me, there's a lot more interest there in the d than in the forwards. Up front, Lekerimaki is the only guy with a legitimate shot at a solid NHL career. On the back end, there's no big deal prospect like Lekerimaki, but maybe three with a chance.

I hope the organization will make Pettersson and Kudryavtsev priorities, with lots of ice time with veteran partners. There's no way that Kudryavtsev should be sent back to junior for an over-age season.

that's an ugly abby training camp roster. mueller, pettersson, kudryavtsev, lekkerimaki and sasson are the only names that are really relevant to the canucks. i guess maybe woo, felton, mcward and pdg are relevant too -- at least in the short term

they'll probably get aman and/or bains and maybe raty and friedman but that's still not much

If people knew nothing about their respective draft positions, knew only that they were both 20YO rookies, and had watched them play in the preseason-- would Kudryavtsev really be ranked a level or two below Lekkerimaki as a prospect?

There is zero chance that Kudryavtsev is going back to junior and I cannot even imagine now that he is going to be watching from the press box in favour of some 23-26YO guy who'll never be more than a call-up option. On merit, he should be ahead of Pettersson in the pecking order to begin the season, too.

That's a pretty crowded defense. Wonder who sticks in the top 6.

It's also missing Hirose as they can't send him down while injured.

Berzolla is an obvious ECHL guy and I doubt Arntsen plays D regularly for the team. From Ryan Johnson's comments it doesn't sound like Brisebois is overly good to play right now either and the team is being very careful with him.

But that's a lot of bodies and hopefully the guys who should be getting the icetime get the icetime they need.

Yeah, I fear that Brisebois might be almost done and if that is the case, I'm just glad for him that it came after he signed the contract for 350k last season and 775k this season so that he comes out of his career with a half-decent financial start on life.

Kudryavtsev seems quite comfortable on the right side so they can move him around as desired/necessary.

Yeah the forward prospect depth is sad once Raty and Lekk graduates. the price of going all in.

I’m certainly hoping EP and KK get some important minutes with important roles.

Depends on how you define 'ugly'. There may not be a lot of guys on this Abby roster who figure long-term in the parent Canucks' plans.

But at the AHL level, this is looking like a dominant roster. They've got serious depth everywhere, including some veterans up front like Di Giuseppe and Blais; and on the blueline vets like Brisebois, Wolanin and Woo. In fact they're stacked everywhere.

There's not enough room for everyone, so some tough decisions looming. And there's still a good chance that guys like Bains and Friedman, or even Raty, eventually make their way to the farm as well.

I guess goaltending might be the only question mark. But if one of Silovs or Lankinen make their way to Abby--even that issue goes away.

Why isn't Tolopilo more highly regarded? He had virtually identical stats to Silovs with Abby last year.

There's a few reasons but a big one is that he's been in the system (and North America) for less time. Silovs has been in North America since the 19-20 season while Tolopilo's first year was last season. Tolopilo is also one year older than Silovs.

also a lot of silovs hype comes from his world championships performance. his ahl performance is good but not spectacular. tolopilo doesn't have anything similar

That as well but he was getting talked up in the media and here during his first professional season. The World Championships was continuation of that and really hyped him up.

Going a bit off topic but while you want to focus on winning when you have the chance for this season with cap space minimizing the amount of additions we can actually make I've been wondering if we can hold onto our 1st and/or 2nd round pick this season by trading Hoglander instead. This would be on the conditions that Hoglander doesn't make himself a more valuable player this season, his regular season scoring will price him out of what we can afford on the next contract, and he isn't going to have a fit and/or be an impact player in the playoffs.

Tolopilo's numbers in the Allsvenskan were very impressive, despite it being Swedish Tier 2 Pro

NHL could learn something about the AHL in terms of training camp. Abbotsford Canucks will practice and scrimmage for a week, then it's on to the season opener. Canucks go back-to-back with the Calgary Wranglers, next Friday and Sunday,

I guess the feeling is a lot of these players have already gone through a tough NHL training camp, and maybe even got into an exhibition game or two. So they don't really need much time.

But makes it tough for for AHL coaches like Manny Malhotra and the coaching staff to mix and match lines and d-pairings, to come up with the best opening night lineup.

Abbotsford has sent a bunch of players down to ECHL Kalamazoo. That includes Josh Bloom, which isn't a surprise, but he's got to be disappointed. The career isn't looking very promising.

Joe Arntsen and Zach Berzolla were the cuts on the back end, leaving Abby with 8 d-men, which will go up to 9 if Brannstrom clears waivers, 10 if one of Juulsen and Friedman gets sent down and clear.

Is management hoping someone claims Brannstrom?

It’s also possible they loan Brannstrom to a different AHL team.
