Abbotsford Canucks Thread | Prospects Starting to Heat Up

Silvos was terrible on the 2nd goal. Maybe the biggest orgaizational disappointment of the season for the Canucks is the way Silvos has played.

Bains very deft on the second Abby goal.

Gotta love the Abby announcer blowing his load over McWard
He is, but McWard is playing very well. Best so far of the d-men.

Plays like this and you see a future. His big problem is having those games where he gets bounced off the puck in his end.

Mancini has shown his physical side but some glitches in his down low coverage. Did not cut off the player who took puck to the net on the SD PP and allowed that player to make a wide open pass across the crease. Silvos had to make a very good glove save.

Mancini seems to have good speed bringing the puck up out of his zone but can see he is feeling his way on a new team and missing on some of his passes.

Pettersson having a quiet ho-hum game.

Lekkerimaki, Bains and Ray are a good line. They can skate and are good down low.

Haven't seen much else from the forwards.

McWard has played well. Solid but not flashy.

Kudratsev is so smart, not scared of contact but just uses leverage and his brain to make his plays. Really need guys like that. Scared that he doesn't fit the large, tall tree defender profile. All I can hope is that because he was drafted by this group that they will keep him. Gives me Orlov vibes.

Mancini can really skate. Wouldn't say hes creative, but hes smart and can make plays. Couple good step ups. Doesn't really hit which is fine but looks to be one of the better skaters on the team.

Petey Junior (think he may have got injured in the 3rd) is also an amazing skater.

Linus Karlson should be a 4th line figure by next year. Plays smart, great along the board. Will be cheap.

Silovs is meh, seems to overplay a lot of pucks and get himself out of position. Really hope they resign Lankinen asap, there isn't much that gives me hope between Tolopilo and Silovs.

Abby Canucks eke out a 3-2 win with a stacked lineup. Karlsson, Aman, Sasson, Bains, Di Giuseppe and Elias Pettersson II have all spent time in the NHL this season, along with of course Mancini with the Rangers.

Had to catch the game on the San Diego Gulls audio network, but the road announcer seemed pretty impressed with Lekkerimaki. Described his as 'slippery' out there. Also a strong game from McWard, who was voted the second star.

Maybe the Canucks will be rewarded for their patience with this kid. He's a rare right-shot defender, who's listed at 6'1" and 192. Unfortunately for him, Allvin likes his 'tree trunk' defenders. But McWard is quietly have a solid season in the 'A'.

Lots of players down from the Canucks and new player Mancini in the lineup. Team has something like 30 players around which is good given the number of games they will play over the 4 Nations tourney break.

Liked

Karlsson - gets the puck in the net. Looking like a superior offensive player in the AHL.

McWard - Skates like this and moves the puck like this and he starts controlling play. Thought he also did a good job pinching off people along the boards. Annoucers got a little gussy, but McWard was excellent.

Kudryavstev - my favorite player on this team. So smart all the time and so consistent all the time. Is very good at reading the play and seeing what to do. Skill level is very high. Has good shot but if it ever gets that to the next level could be a good offensive player at any level. Has great stick around the net defensively. Size the only question but he plays like a vet.

Lekkermaki - showed good speed in circling around the offensive zone. Didn't always result in much but great to see him controlling the puck like that. Can see he is starting to feel more confident. Might well be in Vancouver next year.

Bains - Made some good set ups and likely the most dangerous Abbotsford player.

Others

Mancini - got better as the game went on and started asserting hinmself in the third. Skating looked fine. However, adjusting to a new team and some of his passes missed the mark or not in sync with teammates. Had some coverage problems around his net and that seems the area most in need of work. Don't think you can call him NHL ready, but looks mobile enough to see him getting there. A minus 2 but one of those minuses was totally Silvos's fault.

Silvos - made a couple of very good saves but too prone to letting in the bad goal. Canucks better hope Demko is ready to play.
