Looks like he's not shooting the puck as much as he was through his first 7 games either. He had 3, 5, 6, 8, 6, 6 and 5 shots in those games. In the 5 games since? 3, 2, 5, 3 and 2. Not much of a sample size of course but a definite difference.

I think that before they sent him back down, they gave him some guidance on what he needs to improve upon. It could be that he's concentrating on those aspects and the process has taken a bit away from his shot volume. The hope is that as he incorporates those new elements to his game, the shots/game will creep back up.

Yeah, it's disappointing that he seems unable to assert himself at that level. He needs to play far less passively to start having an impact.
He now has the 2nd worst plus minus among AHL rookies. I haven't seen the last few games for Abby but last year in the SHL, he was very inconsistent with how hard he was willing to work in games.

That sounds suspiciously like player development...

It's not just about lack of shots on goal. Maybe he's just been in a low-energy stretch, it happens, but he needs to get considerably more involved in the play than he has been in the past two weeks.

I defer to your knowledge. Over that stretch, has he been in better position defensively? A number of posters noticed that he wasn't always on the right side of the opposing player.

FWIW - and I think I mentioned this at some point last year - going back to 2021/22 he's been a ~2 shot per game or below player in pro leagues. I think he put up like 2.25 shots per game last year in the SHL.

One of the most promising things for him this year was that he seemed to have realized that NHL goal scorers are typically volume shooters.
