Abbotsford Canucks Talk | 2025 Stretch Run

What’s our legitimate shot at winning this thing?

Well, I really like the Canucks chances of getting out of the Pacific. I don't think Coachella Valley is that strong a team; and Abbotsford has a winning record against the Colorado Eagles who finished first.

When you break down this Canucks roster, they seem to have the right balance of veterans and youth, which is what you need at this time of the year.

But the key in the playoffs is always goaltending. If Silovs, who's coming off a shutout in a clincher against Tucson, could ever get hot like he did at the World Hockey Championships for Latvia a couple of years ago, then look out.

If they were to win the Pacific, it would be on to the Calder Cup semi-finals against the winner of the Central Division. And I don't see many of the surviving teams in that division as being juggernauts either.

So fingers crossed--an appearance in the Calder Cup Finals isn't an outlandish idea. A seat for that series at the Abby Entertainment Center would be the toughest hockey tickets in this market in years.

Hey all, I just moved and due to an ISP oversight what should have been as simple as moving the router to the new place and looking it up has turned into needing a tech to come out, and that won't happen until Tuesday. I'll stream the game but I'm not in a great spot to make the GDT or provide my usual updates until I'm not stuck dealing with a touch screen.

I'm hoping somebody will be the next man up to cover for me until I'm back up and running.

Okay, I will fill in for the first two games.

It's generally been gloomy and disappointing in the Vancouver this year; but the same can't be said for the Abbotsford Canucks.

If you're looking for 'positives', the Abbotsford coaches, players and management have been supplying them in spades. Although it's hard to gauge just how far they'll go in these Calder Cup playoffs, at the AHL-level it's all about 'player development'.

And it's hard to find a single guy who hasn't dramatically improved their games playing under Manny Malhotra in Abbotsford this season. And that improvement was seen in the play of the call-ups.

D-Petey spent half a season in Abbotsford, then was called up and you couldn't take him out of the lineup Even guys who've been recalled before like Karlsson, Raty and Sasson--looked like different players this season.

And of course their under 22-group led by Lekkerimaki, Mueller, Kudryavtsev and even Klimovich had 'breakthrough' seasons.

Reading the tea-leaves, it's hard to know how serious a contender Malhotra is for the job with the parent Canucks. But based on what he's done with these young players in Abby--he's more than deserving of a shot.

Maybe, but there's still about 1500-2000 tickets available for Wednesday, from a quick look at the map. I'm going, actually, and pretty excited... but it'd be nice to watch in a fuller house.

Onto the third round. If there's a fifth and deciding game it will be played on a Monday afternoon (Memorial Day holiday in the States).

Anyone seen Christian Felton?

But seriously... I can't understand why Joe Arntsen is playing right now instead of Felton. I don't consider it to be close between these two guys. They're about equal at defending but Felton is clearly more skilled and poised with the puck. You wouldn't guess it from looking at their stats but watching the games... can't miss it.

Would rather see Mynio in over both of those guys. This is a great development opportunity for him and he's the only one who has a future in this organization after these playoffs are over.
I'm not even a big fan of him but he has the steady defensively conscious game to handle #6D minutes. He looked a tier above Arntsen in the preseason.
Really should be Willander in that spot but...ugh.

Likely a moot point anyways as Brandon Astle mentioned during last game (game 3) that Wolanin was already back skating the previous day.

Any updates on the Abby Canucks injured players--Raty, Woo and Wolanin?

Canucks will have been off for a full week before they hit the ice for their playoff opener on Friday. Would be a huge boost if they could get any of those guys back.

No, and it's unlikely we'll find anything out until the pregame skate on Friday.
