I think in hindsight this makes sense. In Pittsburgh his highest hr total was 34 - while in his prime at 27 years old. This year, he's on pace for 73 which is more than double his best year on the pirates. All this at the age of 36(!!!!!) mind you. Good catch for the mlb.

Even if this was done out of ignorance, pretty disappointed that he didn’t check.

He has a lengthy history of injury so I can’t say I’m surprised if it was to treat injuries. But why not verify that it’s approved by the league? The hell man.

This is all assuming he wasn’t doing this to “cheat”, which wouldn’t surprise me either knowing how the nhl is with this stuff.

This was Ekblad when he was 19.

It all makes sense now.

This is just so, so deflating.

I’m going to return my focus to a hockey topic that he NOTHING to do with PEDs: the pursuit of the all-time goal scoring record.

How dumb do you have to be to take PEDs in today's age, but than again it raises the question maybe they have done a good job of masking it as others have speculated and he just got unlucky, regardless Panthers cup is now tainted

Holy crap that’s a huge penalty. This likely kills his market for free agency. I’d be hesitant to offer a long term deal to a player who has regressed for the past few years and has an injury history that would need PEDs to maintain some level of quality of play. He probably resigns with Florida at a big discount.

Test Matthews,Nylander and Marner next:sarcasm:

I wish they would test everyone all the time. The NHL has a problem with PEDs, I don’t know anything about their testing but the fact that they very rarely catch anyone suggests to me that the league is turning a blind eye to the issue

Not really though. If it's that wide spread an issue, and the league plays absolutely fine as it is; what's the problem exactly?

Morally I don’t really care about steroids. You’re an adult, do what you want.

What makes it an issue are the players who would take them but don’t because it’s against the rules.

Either you allow them or you don’t, I don’t care either way. But if you say you don’t allow them you have to make sure that as a league you’re doing everything you can to make sure no one is taking them.

Or just don’t test at all, I don’t care

glad he at least owned up to it instead of the nate schmidt "bro it's a grain of salt in a swimming pool" nonsense

hard to resist though, can't blame him
