In case he and you arent aware of it, he's got one more skipped pick to make up for.

oops, you're right, in that case he takes Don Simmons, G, to backup his starter.

Mike Farkas - please ignore my last PM, I had forgotten you and BB had both been skipped already.

No, he took the 3 extra invisible players that always played on Gretzky's line. I mean, the guy couldn't have been everywhere at once, could he?

Very solid offensive resume, those 3.

having a hard time? :naughty:

:laugh: Yeah...I went looking for a backup goalie and couldn't decide...all the thinking made me very tired (it's a process I'm not exactly used to)...

How much is coaching really a factor in these things? It seems like maybe in the ATD it has impact, but down here, it appears as if anything decent goes...am I reading that wrong?

I mean, I got a guy that will fit my team very well and has been an exceptional, well-respected coach in hockey history...but it seems like I could have just as easily selected the other coach I had in mind (current NHL HC, 2x OHL Coach of the Year) without much punishment...

I'll give this another go after work today...

Maybe those three draft picks are three "unseen hands", as Doc Emrick might say, I'll get all the bounces now...

I have no idea what everyone else thinks. But I think it has about the same relative impact as in any draft. But as they say, "judgements vary" when we're down this low, and it appears that applies to coaches more than any other position. Paul Maurice was taken last round.

Regina selects spare C Steve Rucchin.

Believe it or not, Rucchin was #2 on my list for 3rd/4th line centers heading into this thing, after Bill Clement. You guys picked off at least the next dozen, but somehow Rucchin made it through. Rucchin checks off all the boxes: He's big (6'2", 210), he's strong, he is good on faceoffs (about 53.5% average), he's excellent defensively (was 7th and 14th in Selke voting in 1999 and 2000 with 7 & 8 votes), he's a leader (captain in the 2004 season) & hard worker, exellent in the corners and in front of the net, he's very clean for the role he usually played (just 164 career PIM) and he's got pretty decent offensive upside. Although his numbers from the Selanne/Kariya days don't tell the true story about his offensive skill (6 seasons with 0.69+ PPG), he did play a valuable role on that line, and proved to be a 0.5 PPG player at a broken down age 32-35 without an elite linemate. In the 2003 Cup Finals run for the Ducks, Rucchin's 7 goals (including a series clinching OT goal) led the team. Only Kariya had 6, and no one had 5.

The downside to Rucchin was that you could rarely count on him for a full season. From 1995-2007 he only played 79% of scheduled games.

The Monsters pick spare LW/C Aaron Broten

Broten was always a favourite of mine growing up. He also was a good playmaker with 5 30+ assist seasons.

Next has been pmed.

Offensive upside is tough to judge for him. If you just look at the numbers, he's better than many 1st liners. His top 6 seasons add up to 343 percent, which would make him a 1st liner without his intangibles. Unfortunately, we all know he played with 2 ATD 1st liners, so a large chunk of his offensive production wasn't created by him.

Rucchin is a good bottom-6 center, but he could also be a bargain top-6 guy for two wingers who lack intangibles. His offensive numbers are certainly unflated by Kariya and Selanne, but he definately provided that line with a lot of things those two guys lacked.

Yeah, I could see someone grabbing, say, Semin and Earl Robinson early on, then grabbing Rucchin late to perfectly complement them.

I just want to declare my hatred for seventies and tarheel for taking my guys.

The steelers are proud to announce our next pick!

the most diligent checking forard I've ever played with. Kullman never would think about scoring; just trail his check wherever the guy went.

Eddie Kullman, RW

A solid right-winger who could score and check equally well, Eddie Kullman played 343 games with the New York Rangers from 1947 to 1954. He was solid role player in the NHL and prolific scorer in the minor leagues.

The native of Winnipeg, Manitoba played junior with the hometown Rangers between 1941 and 1946. He began his pro career in style by leading the PCHL with 56 goals in 1946-47 as a member of the Portland Eagles. In 1947-48 he turned in a solid 32-point effort in 51 games for New York. He spent most of the next two years in the minors but returned to take a regular shift for the Blueshirts in 1950-51.

Kullman was an important part of the Rangers' line-up for four straight seasons in the early 1950s.

D, Frank Mathers

Mathers soon turned his attention to hockey, and beginning in 1948, after three years in the Quebec senior circuit, he spent eight seasons patrolling the blue line for the AHL’s Pittsburgh Hornets, establishing himself as one of the best defensemen in the league. He was named a First Team AHL All-Star five straight years, the only player in AHL history ever to accomplish that feat, and he helped the Hornets to Calder Cup championships in 1952 and 1955. Mathers would also participate in all six of the AHL All-Star Games held in the 1950’s, five as a player.

You Won’t See Me much around here for 6 days. Her Majesty and I are taking a road trip starting tonight to hear some Silly Love Songs, and coming back Monday. I’ll do my best to keep the thread updated but if you can all Listen To What the Man Says and stay on top of sending PMs to Help! whoever is up, that would be awesome. I’m going to Drive My Car 10 hours to Edmonton in the winter, when some say I should take a Jet, which would make me a Fool on the Hill except that I live in Regina. It’ll be A Hard Day’s Night but with some coffee and My Brave Face, I’m sure I won’t fall into Golden Slumbers while driving. Just A Day In the Life of seventies. And if none of this makes sense, ask your mother. Your Mother Should Know. Be nice while I’m gone. Live and Let Die. OK boys? See ya later. This Bird Has Flown.

Why on earth would Killion hijack seventies' account?
