Series Talk: [A1] Toronto Maple Leafs vs [WC1] Ottawa Senators | Part II (TOR lead 3-2)

So just to be clear, given all the folks have guaranteed the Leafs are choking the series every time they have gotten scored on this entire series (even in games they've won), what will be the narrative when they win tonight?

I would feel disrespected as a Sens fan. No credit to their team it is all about narratives with the Leafs. The series will end in 6 games, 4-2 Leafs, on paper no one flinches at that result it makes sense. Yet reading this site you would think it was some unheard of result.

Leafs are such a good team everyone expects them to never lose a game I guess

Game 5 firmly cemented the current narrative about the core.

Even if they win tonight, that narrative will remain the same - massive amounts of doubt and distrust about whether they can truly get it done, and their test now being a well rested Florida team that handled a much tough opponent, faster than you, despite starting 3 days after you and only having Ekblad for 2 days.

The only way they shake that narrative, is if they go on a long run.

There's not many who believe this group is capable of it. Game 5 shattered that confidence that this group may be different

Huh? No game cements anything. No one gives a shit the Leafs were the better team in a lot of the series they lost. Leafs win 1 of 2 games, no one gives a shit.

And for all this talk of domination.. It was a 1-0 game until the 3rd period when a short handed goal went in and then some empty nets. This was not a game the Leafs were never in. Could have easily been 3-0 Leafs after the first period especially how good their first PP was last night.

As for they need to win, well yeah. But they can't change any narratives in 1 day. So it is rather sad seeing people losing their minds celebrating hypothetical situations the last 48 hours on here. Like I said, Leafs win and no one cares the Sens were "close" (whatever that means losing a series 4-2).

What happened to this narrative from a week ago?

Happy last day of the Sens being in the playoffs to those who celebrate

You like to talk trash and then act like a victim when you lose a few games. It's embarrassing.

You just don't have your thumb on the pulse of the fanbase, it would seem.

Even if they win game 6 or 7, there's going to be massive doubts about this core heading into a series they will be heavy underdogs in. Fans don't trust this core.

Game 5 was the same as game 5 against Columbus in 2020. Or game 7 against Montreal in 2021. Or other close out games that they've failed to show up in. Sure, it was tight and close etc., but their worst players, again, were the stars. We've seen this movie before.

My only crime is cheering for my team. Leafs the only fan base who has every other fanbase with no history to us come in and try to dunk for...reasons.

I tuned that out decades ago. This is the team who was having refferundums when we lost 3 games in a row in January and Nylander said "so what it is just 3 games". We have the most drama queens per fanbse

I feel like there’s always a narrative that would rather “blame” the losing team than “credit” the winning team. I think both teams have been pretty good this series, and both teams have had stretches where they really clogged up the neutral zone, kept pucks to the perimeter and made the other team look bad. Both teams have also made mistakes, but have scored timely/opportunistic goals.

I’ll be the first to give tons of credit to the Leafs this series, and in general.

For sure the Sens have played well. Been overwhelmed a lot but bent and didn't break a lot of games. This is the NHL, you aren't getting a playoff series that is a dog walk most times. Sens are allowed to have good players and win games.

This is absolutely true. At the start of the series and when the Leafs took a series lead, this was one of the few Leaf fans with extreme arrogance. Now they are victimized

He's just upset that his "Leafs blew the doors off the Sens in this series" narrative is gone for good.

I can't hate the guy cause I know exactly what he's doing, cause I do the same  You just gotta take it with a grain of salt, his bait works

I've certainly been impressed with the Leafs ability to clamp it down when they have a lead. Game 2 and 3, the Sens had nothing going for them in the 3rd and got some very opportunistic goals. Easy as a Sens fan to say it looked like the Sens weren't trying or didn't care, but the Leafs shut it down so well and had everyone buying in.

I think, all in all, the series being 3-2 Leafs is pretty indicative of the series so far.

Like I said above, my only crime is cheering for my team. I am going to cheer as loudly and proudly as I can until their season is done whether with a cup or otherwise. It rubs some people the wrong way seeing a Leaf fan who doesn't hate their team, that is not my problem.

Yup. Game 3 first shot of the 3rd period goes in to force OT with 3 minutes left. Game 4 Leafs held Sens to 4 combined shots in periods 2 and 3.

That's the playoffs for ya. Bounces and such

It's been fun but that's it tonight for this series. Leafs big boys put some goals on the board tonight and the shutout loss last game will be the slap in the face Toronto needed in this series....

Will Toronto ever come out with some type of killer instinct? This is rinse and repeat. They have to treat this game like Game 7 because even while they would be favored in a Game 7 in Toronto, the amount of pressure in their barn would be through the roof. And whats crazy, its only Round 1.
