Series Talk: [A1] Toronto Maple Leafs vs [WC1] Ottawa Senators | Part II (TOR lead 3-0)

Yesterday in the Leafs forum I said Berube should do exactly that: Throw out Matthews every time he sees Pinto. What better way to show that you believe your guys can get it done against anything the opponent throws out there.

So I was very happy at the opening faceoff seeing Matthews line out there to start vs. the Ottawa "shutdown" line. That's A+ mind game-level stuff from Berube.
Are you referring to the opening faceoff in Game 3? Because, if so, Sens had the last change so not sure how it’s some genius move from Berube

It's been funny with the shenanigans this series.
They have been almost unilateral in origin, with Ottawa players initiating just about all of it, Toronto laughing most of it off, and then winning the games.

You had Ridley Grey with the cross check to Tavares' face.
Kleber with the crosscheck to Domi's face.
The crying about officials about the discrepancy of penalties in game 1.
Brady with the poke/spear on Tavares after the end of period 1 in game 2.
Ridley Gray with his penchant for cross-checks.
The time wasting by Ullmark immediately before the Leafs 1st goal of game 2, where he just went to the bench for a little over 2 minutes without any actual reason.
The crying by Greenie after the end of the game about how Toronto had too many men on the ice as they scored in overtime. Completely ignoring the fact that the OT goal was a 2 on 4 rush from a brutal pass, and the other 3 skaters from Toronto never even factored in on the play in any shape.
Game 3 starts with Ridly Green pushing Tanev into the post after a whistle.
The flop from Stutzle.
And now we see that Nick Cousins tried to interfere with Stolarz in the pre-game warm-ups.

And through all of this it's led to absolutely nothing in terms of retaliation, laughing in the face of Senators players, Knies guiding Gried into the Leafs bench as we casually went off for a line change, etc.

The best thing TO can do is just keep playing their game and not retaliate.

The biggest difference with these Leafs is they're not nervous. You could how tense they were, even the year they beat Tampa. But this year they're all business. A tying goal doesn't phase them. 20 seconds in the D-zone doesn't turn into 2 minutes. The best players are scoring, and the special teams have been excellent. Add to that dependable goaltending and they're going to have the pieces in place for more success than they've had in the past.

This is a big difference everyone should be able to see

Do we attribute this to Chief? Or just maturity? A little from column A and a little from column B?

The Leafs getting reverse swept would be the most Leafs thing possible...

2 of 3 won in OT. Either of those could have gone to Ottawa

Not betting on that happening though, I'll leave that to Pinto

The scores of the last couple of games have been close, but aside from a 10 minute surge at the beginning of Game 3, and having the lead for a little bit, the Leafs have pretty much been in control of the series.

Stolarz could easily be the scapegoat if the Sens had managed to win in OT, with the team in front of him virtually eliminating quality chances for huge parts of the latter stages of games.

As it is, the team has bailed him out for giving up those game-tying goals.

Anyway, the only real score that matters is 3-0. The Leafs are doing a good job on cutting down chances in dangerous areas and I'm curious to see how it works against other teams in the division.

Berube is part of it. The team having genuine confidence in the goalie helps and the Leafs are deeper and better than in years past. I was thinking watching someone like OEL on the bottom pairing last night how different that's been than in years past when the bottom pairing was scraped together with #6s or guys just not ready for the moment like Liljegren or Sandin. Sure, I wish the Leafs had a bit more skill in the bottom 6 or that someone like Domi could find a more obvious role consistently than trying to fit him in whatever slot is left open in the Top 9, but there's no line or pairing that really makes me nervous like in years past.

Meh. Both of those OT games they didn't allow a shot in the 3rd until almost the end, and the one shot goes in. First one a bad bounce, last night a softie. But the Leafs were controlling the game and have been controlling the game even when they briefly were trailing, as they have all series.

Leafs dominating, Sens on life support and soon will have the plug pulled

Btw I will go back to being a full time Leafs hater in round 2

I'm not trying to say the Leafs weren't in control, but any game that goes to OT can be one bad bounce or a softie away from going to the other team

I know the Sens weren't expected to win, but I would be very concerned with Travis Green if I was a Sens fan. Credit to him, he got them to the playoffs, but he has been massively outcoached. Made no adjustments all series, chasing matchups and ruining the flow of his team vs a team just rolling lines.

Reminds me so much of being on the other side as a Leafs fan. Feeling the control of the series slip away as Keefe looks stunned, has no answers and changes nothing. Players can only say they have faith in themselves until they lose.

Sooner they get a real coach the sooner they take another step. I'd move on from green if Tocchet became available without hesitation

It’s hilarious that no one cheering against the leafs has anything to say about WHY Ottawa is losing all these games and all they can think of is “gee, I hope Toronto can beat themselves because Ottawa sure isn’t good enough” lol

It’s been like this since game 81 of the season wrapped up

Someone would be smart to pickup coach Q
