That's the way it was with Pat Quinn. The more he called out the refs, the more penalties we got. And it also sent a bad message to the players who also started complaining constantly. The best move is to stay quiet and leave the whining to us fans. Unless you're Tortella. That guy is comedy gold.

Best to leave the whining to Travis Green. He better have nothing to say after last night.

For a team up 3-0 there's a lot of whining in this thread. Leafs and Sens are even for PP opportunities (9, which is tied for 5th most in the playoffs)
Not whining...Leafs just showed that it is possible to win a playoff game while getting the shaft from the refs lol simple as that. Russian judge gives Tim a 8.5 btw, has to clean up his tuck and roll.

Not really whining, just poking fun at the Sens fans melt down over game one reffing. Even before the series started I said regular seasons stats dont really matter (in terms of PP opportunities etc), they will likely end up fairly even in the series overall. And after a "lopsided" game 1, that is still on track to be true.

Refs could also start calling dives. It would be a refreshing change.

I think he touched the puck on the Knies goal too (and it looked like Ullmark might have saved it if he hadn't). It's entirely possible Matthews actually had a hattrick last night. Someone in the crowd must have thought so too because they tossed their hat on the ice after the game winner.
I said the same thing after that slow motion close up. I think Matthews barely touches, but nudges it over the line.

Even though I don't like their coach, the Leafs seems more stable or something this season. They've been way more consistent than usual, and there was no distraction with off-ice nonsense or Matthews' goal totals or anything. Everybody seems a bit more dialled in to long-term success this year. So far, they look good. I mean, they've still needed overtime in 2/3 games to get wins, but wins are wins.

Too bad for the Sens, but presumably this is good experience for them. Just a coin flip in two of the games, but them's the breaks...

When it keeps happing it's not a coin flip. Unless you believe all of the game 7 1 goal games the Leafs have lost are just coin flips (hint, they aren't).

This is argubaly the very first time in the Matthews era Leafs have an easy round 1 opponent they can easily beat up.

Yeah - I know some will say my Habs in 2021 counted too, and technically they were a weaker team - but Carey Price was always an x-factor and he went supernova for us to win. Ottawa doesn't have anything like that.

My point is - this is their first easy matchup ever perhaps, and they're up 3-0 and likely to end it in 4, or 5 max. How much is that going to help them moving forward? A lot of the Leafs issues have always been mental - they get in their own heads, can't finish off, etc. Maybe starting off the playoffs so strong will finally give them wings and allow them to do a deep run.
Habs fans always forget knocking out our captain game 1. That helped too.

That's not whining. We had to listen after game 1 how rigged the reffing was for the Leafs and you can't win like that.

Well the Leafs just had a game that way a gifted 5 on 3, many blatant missed calls (Tkachuk/Nylander tackle, Marner trip ending 3rd period as biggest example), Sens got fed PP after PP. Leafs still won and never looked nervous at any point

Don't worry Sens fans, this is just a new way for Toronto to be humiliated because Ottawa gonna come back and take the next 4. Please???

We're down 3-0 but I've liked a lot about how Ottawa has played. Would like to see them take the next one to extend the season, I want a bit more Sens hockey since I've forgotten how fun this time of year is.

They've had easy teams before - they've just f***ed it up royally. Columbus was every bit of an easy matchup as we're seeing with Ottawa too but our core players just straight up didn't show up in that series.

Sens Goggles is a thing.

It is the inconsistency of reffing. It's a fast game and they like to "let them play" more in the playoffs and that's good I guess.

It's hard to watch our guy get cross checked four times and then one the same play in front of the same ref see Knies take a cross checking penalty for doing the exact same thing...seconds later.

I said going into the series that it might be good for Toronto that we are playing a team that had the most power plays in the league because refs like to even things up and it might lead to us getting more PP's than we would otherwise get and that we have a more dangerous PP. After three games I appear to be on to something

Also, cant ignore a lot of the team make up is completely different. We actually have D that can clear a crease, that can go into a corner, take a hit, and not panic and throw the puck away etc. There are a lot of differences, but everyone just focuses on the core 4 and act like everything else was the same. Havent had a single bad back breaking goal against so far this series. How many times did Campbell, Andersen or Samsonov do that?
