JJ Peterka for Batherson.

Due to Dorion's mismanagement for years, and their prospect being empty at the moment (outside of Yakemchuk and maybe a few surprises), Sens can't afford to trade any of Stutzle, Tkachuk, Batherson, Norris, Pinto, Greig, Sanderson, Chabot and Kleven UNLESS it was for culture shock

This proposal would be an example of that but not sure Batherson and his contract would be targeted. I think Tkachuk and Norris would be more at risk.

The thing is they need to ADD a Winger, not swap one.

Then they still need a winger lol, and that would be a backwards move.
It’s not a pressing need atm, some D help is needed.
Or they just wait til some guys come back from injury like most teams do in the cap world.

Outside of Zub's injuries and Hamonic playing, there's absolutely no need on defense. But how do you get rid of Hamonic and his NMC?

Sens have the 8th lowest xGA/60 at ES (7th at 5 on 5, 21st on PK). Outside of Hamonic, I find our defense is pretty strong

Go after an Iafallo type that loves forechecking & playing defense. Maybe find one that can hit too.

I'd want to have a Iafallo instead of Amadio but Iafallo is too expensive

That said, this is not what is needed on Stutzle's wing

If Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson stay together, you need a dynamic forward to play with Stutzle and Giroux

Perron has been injured a lot plus had to deal with a though family situation, 4.0 AAV was allowed to him.

I love having the salary cap space of a cup winning team while not making the playoffs!

I hope for our sake Ostapchuk or someone can step in to fill Giroux’sntop six spot soon.

Ostapchuk is never going to be more than a bottom-6 forward and even then, maybe more a 4th liner, he doesn't have the offense but great defense and physicality

Just shift the lines

Brady/Stu/Giroux
Norris/Pinto/Batherson
Cousins/Grieg/Amadio

You're just shifting the problem : ideally, Cousins and Amadio are not in your top-9. Greig is not ready to provide consistent offense and he's not going to produce in that situation. Only thing that is improved here is that Pinto needs to play with more talent.

I'd like to sign Mangiapane in the offseason. He's an excellent forechecker, strong defensively, a natural goalscorer, and has always been very productive 5on5.
A lot of Caps fans would be open to trading him in-season. He's a solid all around contributor, but playing on the 3rd line, with less than strong offensive and often rotating linemates, he doesn't generate enough offense to justify his cap hit. Not really his fault, just how he's being used.

But Ottawa probably can't afford him during the season without sending a pricey contract back, the Caps don't have a ton of space either, and realistically they're good and deep enough this season to not have a pressing need to force anything. Not sure if a deal would be feasible.

Timmy Stu is a really dumb nickname...

His actual nickname is Jimmy Stu.

It arose when he first arrived in the dressing room after having been drafted 3rd overall and the team (led by Brady Tkachuk) pretended that they didn't know what his name was, and called him "Jimmy".

I.E.
Need more of a scorer tbh. Whoever plays with Stutzle will get multiple clean looks to score a period.

With that said what's up with Kaliyev. He's gonna be pushed out in LA you think?

I was about to suggest Kaliyev since LA seems to hate him and he's low-salary (825k IIRC??).

nyquist is a solid idea, i would be willing to take a chance on hall and saad

essentially looking to add a winger for a cheap price from my point of view, might actually consider paying for a better/more consistent winger if sens can actually stabilize themselves in a playoff spot

a winger is a need but ottawa isnt in the position to pay a crazy or even a somewhat normal price for one

Tomasino seems like he could click, wonder if Nashville could be persuaded to trade him for a fair return.

Nyquist is probably the best realistic short term option. They could probably send Perron the other way, he'd complete the Old Immobile Righthand PP shooter trifecta with Stamkos and Marchessault that Trotz is coveting for some reason

Also idk if Peterka for Pinto would be of interest to Buffalo but could be a win win

I’d prefer to keep Pinto

He might be a bit old but I think Rakell would be a great addition. His scoring tough has really picked up this year and he does a lot on the forechecking and "away from the puck" end that boost offensive zone productivity.

Would love to figure out something around Pinto but I'm not sure what that could be.

Worst f***ing nickname in the league

The real nickname is Jimmy Stu, don't think Timmy Stu is in real life, maybe some people confuse the two on the internet.

Have to be a pretty good winger - I'd just stick with Stu.

I don't think you understood the OP correctly, Tim Stutzle is literally untouchable. OP is looking for a winger to play WITH him.

Why in Odin's name would the Senators trade Stutzle? Guy is incredible.

OP didn't think about the confusion the title could create. Get a winger FOR Stutzle, to help him out.

No, he needs way higher level than that, currently plays with Giroux (but 36 y/o now) and Gaudette (really late bloomer, 13 goals already). And people might have the impression that Stutzle is not very good defensively but I think he'll start getting Selke recognition as soon as this season. He's still 22 y/o. A lot of stars (even Crosby, McDavid, Tavares) took longer before being good defensively

What about Kuzmenko? When he first came to the Flames and Canucks, he was fantastic. Maybe another change of scenery will get him firing again this season. Flames could eat 50% bringing his cap hit down to 2.75m, maybe we could even involve a 3rd team to eat another 50% to bring it to 1.375m.

So maybe a 3-way?

To Ottawa:
  • Kuzmenko [$1,375,000]
To Calgary:
  • FLA 3rd in '25
  • OTT 4th in '27
  • Retention [$2,750,000]
To 3rd team:
  • CGY 5th in '25
  • Retention [$1,375,000]

I think this would fit under the cap for Ottawa if Ostapchuk was sent down.

That would be a cheap/realistic option. Kuz has proved himself before. He's very enigmatic but he would be a decent stop gap they can afford (as in this scenario) and his contract expires after the season anyway
