A team from Florida will be competing in the Stanley Cup final for the 6th year in a row

So many passionate fans in hockey markets won’t get to experience a cup win because of cap tax evasion and NHL favoritism. People in Florida will celebrate, forget the next day, and get back to being the worst drivers in the States. This cup win would mean a million times more to the city of Edmonton than Miami/Sunrise.

It’s special when the cup goes to a city where is cherished and celebrated for years instead of looked as an afterthought.

Sucks to suck.

While I agree the management has been good, especially at identifying players that fit the mould of the team there trying to play as. No state tax teams all benefit from an additional portion of the cap where they can give players more cash in pocket vs. northern teams all while pretending they don't benefit from revenue sharing. What makes me laugh is this notion that those same players all stuck around at market value. Verhaege is a great example, $1M for 2 years in FLA is $650K after tax, that same salary in NYC is $580K, that is not a small difference especially for those players where you can take a risk.

Doesn't change that the team has made the right moves at the right time, but let's not all sit here and pretend FLA/Tampa/Nashville/Dallas etc. haven't all gotten there pick of the UFA's the last few years as a result, especially amongst the guys that you've mentioned. You have an advantage and good on the teams who have it for flexing it, but don't pretend that you're on equal terms with the northern teams, it sounds like the rich kid whose dad got him a job then saying I've worked harder then everyone else. In particular because one man (bettman) has been trying to make this happen for years.
The irony of a Montreal Canadiens fan whining about advantages...as if they won 24 Cups because of nothing more than good management/ownership.

Canadian front offices are going to have to come up with something in order to entice more players to stop putting all the canadian teams on their NTC's. Complaining about taxes on the internet isn't going to cut it.

Seems like the easy solution is to relocate all 7 Canadian teams to the southern United States where they will finally be able to compete without those horrible tax and weather disadvantages. It’s a win-win-win for all involved.

Which rings in another question.....if the NHL were to lose all Canadian teams....what happens to the Stanley Cup?

I get what youre saying, but technically the term "world champions" makes sense because it's the #1 league in the world where all the best players go.
Off topic to the thread but yeah I completely agree and don't get why people trip over this notion so much. Players in the NBA come from all over the world and all the best players congregate to the NBA. A NBA team who just won the Championship spent that season competing against the best players and best teams in the world, they are world champions.

If there were another league neck and neck with the NBA in skill level then it would be a different story but I can't imagine any of the euro leagues being much better comparatively than what the KHL is to the NHL.

Why would I be afraid of Bettman bringing QC back? I don't understand what you mean.

Quebec city doesn't have the money or population and corporate funding to do it anyways or it would already be done. Don't blame Bettman that business is bad in Canada
Yeah but a team in Arizona for almost 30 years worked out so well.

You guys act like you are somehow superior to us. When it is simply not true.

You are not better fans that are more passionate. You simply have more fans from simply being around longer and less other things to spend money on.

The jokes about fans are old "Our parade would be bigger" or "you won't have fans in 5 years" you know how dumb tat sounds?
The Panthers wouldn't even exist if it weren't for Canadian fans going to the games. And fans from Northeastern USA.

Same name, but the cup becomes sponsored by the Stanley corporation.

Absolutely spot on. People are only laughing because the truth hurts.
