He has a full NMC, so I'm not sure he's going anywhere.
It depends how deadset he is on making the playoffs this year. If he rides it out this year and doesn’t start clicking with the guys here he could very well end up a healthy scratch come playoff time which would absolutely tank any contract negotiations he’ll be in next summer. Big picture he might be better off accepting a trade to a bubble team where he could play a bigger role.

I do still have hopes he can find his place here though as when he’s on his game he brings an element the team can sorely lack at times.

I still think the coaching staff needs to approach the J Skinner situation as trying to make their system work around a player like him rather than the other way around.

Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying fully cater to everything but he is who is he at this point and the team signed him for a reason. Put him in a position to provide offense and insulate him defensively.

It’s such a no brainer move to put him on PP1 over Nuge for a start and then find a fit for him at evens. At the end of the day if he gets the looks he will produce but for the most part he’s had to generate his own looks which isn’t his game.

Derek Ryan was somehow -2 in a blowout win

Useless player
I understand Knoblauch cutting him some slack, the thought process behind what he is trying to accomplish is still really solid, but his ability to execute the play he has in his mind is greatly diminished and he's losing 50/50 puck battles all over the place.

Yep. Posters keep talking about trading him but like you said he has that NMC. He wants to make the playoffs and that is why he came here. He is on pace for 16 goals. Who would trade for him is also the question? HE wont waive to go to an non playoff bond team

Think they will pause cap accrual for a couple of days as we come back with a hard back to back (Colorado/Vegas).

It's worth seeing what Kapanen's got.

Uh no, I count 7 years of double digit scoring pace.

He had a bad year in St. Louis last year, when he first got to St. Louis he scored 8 goals in like 23 games.

He had 5 season that could be said to be good. getting 20 pts a year is not good. For those 5 years were he had good years? He got something like 80% of those pts playing with guys named Matthews and Crosby. Once he got moved off those lines? his stats flatlined.

Put Kapanen back on waivers I am guessing. From McDavid to waiver wire.

Waive Dermott and send Caggiula back down (should be Ryan but they don’t seem to want to do that)

Kapanen-McDavid-Hyman
Podkolzin-Drai-Arvidsson
Skinner-RNH-Henrique
Brown-Janmark-Perry
Ryan

Something like that

I agree.
Ryan has been a good soldier but he is at the point in his career when he should be winding down.
I would like an extended look at Philp in his spot.

Really good game by Bouchard a beauty goal and a beauty assist, he was also turning a ton of pucks over from well timed pokechecks and he was more intelligent with the risks he took.

Caggiula looks like he incorporated some Josh Archibald into his game, he's a sneaky good hitter for someone undersized, he brings a pest quality, and while it's not quite there he's clearly made defensive strides over the player he once was.

Well for one I believe he's generated production from the bottom 6 for a lot his career too, he's gotten stints with players like Crosby and Matthews from time to time, but it's not like he was their regular winger.

Besides ... last time I checked we have a couple of Crosby/Matthews tier players with a bunch of wingers that aren't producing enough with them.

I thought the second PP unit actually looked very good at the end of the game lol

Yeah Jeff Skinner doesn't look bad in Nuge's spot.

Sloppy game.
Too bad they couldnt play the Rangers 10 times this season.
Connor and Leon had all kinds of room in this game and they just ate it up.

Really nice to see Podkolzin get his first goal. Hell of a shot too.
Caggiula channeling his inner Corey Perry in this game.
Its refreshing to see an Oiler player pissing off a goalie...especially Quick. :D
Bouchard played much better in this game. Nice shot on the goal.

Right now the Oilers have 2 players named Mattias in the top 6 in scoring.
Ekholm is 4th in team scoring and Janmark is 6th,
Janmark has 10 points in 22 games this season. He had 12 points all of last season.
He is ahead of RNH and Hyman in team scoring.
He had 2 points in tonights game and generated offence on the PK...he is having a hell of a season so far.

Credit where credit is due...Stu Skinner played a solid game. Made a great save on Kreider.
I would really like to know what Ekholm said to Kapanen after getting the secondary assist on McDavids 1st goal, Ekholm didnt seem too happy.

Hopefully the team can get completely healthy over this 5 day break.

It misses Evander Kane. He’s always anchored that unit in the little time they see.

Gotta give a shoutout to Darnell. He played reallly strong in his return. People rag on him but he’s playing good this year and we really misssed him when he was out.

Second this. What did Ek say to Kapanen? Was it really necessary/that bad that he got an earful right after a great pass leading to a goal?

Good to see Podkolzin get 3rd star in this game.
In addition to his 1st goal as an Oiler he also (once again) led the team in hits.
The Oilers as a team are consistently the nail instead of the hammer but Podkolzin is the exception.

Its starting to become more evident why he was a 1st round pick.

It seemed incongruent for sure.
That being said...Ekholm is a very smart player and Im sure that whatever he said was worthwhile but I would sure like to know specifically what he did say and why he picked that time to say it.

Whether or not he’ll put it together fully is still up in the air obviously but man he’s so close with the work ethic, forechecking ability, defensive play and vision if he can put together some finishing ability he’s gonna be a very good play.

I am cheering for him big time.
Really like the player and what he brings.

EDIT: Just listening to the GYB podcast and I just heard that Pods parents have been in town for a week.
This was thier last day in town and they were able to see their son score.
Nice story.

Podkolzin is a strong as an ox.

Look at Trouba try to flatten him, it doesn't even phase Podz. Trouba looked like he did a "what the f***?" double take. Notice this a few games ago too where on the forecheck Podkolzin just went through a player who was trying to hold him up like he was nothing.

This guy is freakishly strong.

I don't know why, but it takes a bit for this team to hit it's stride. They seem to have done that. We will be a challenge for anyone in the league right now

I won't say it yet about our goalie.... But ... Positive things lately!

Best skating game of the year. Led by McDavid who controlled this game from opening shift. Janmark has been super consistent all season had a stellar game. Small things but Skinner with a big save off Kreider in a 4-1 game when Ekholm made a wrong read to leave the Ranger sniper open for a high danger kill shot. The Nurse Kulak pair has been really solid.

Oil had likely their best game driving offense off rush chances. They pushed the pace all night and responded from puck drop with a fast, engaged game after being embarrassed against the Wild. Good response and resilience with a few injuries they've been dealing with.

EDIT: Forgot to add Podkolzen who's putting in the work and doing a lot right with his game with skill guys. Gets rewarded with a beauty goal tonight.

Man Brett Kulak might be the most stereotypical Albertan ever. What a beauty!

EDIT: Smitty is his favourite Oiler. What a legend. Incredible.
