7How many games do they play before the deadline?

Probably not enough games to make a difference in their view.
How many games do they play before the deadline?
Leafs traded a 2025 1st and a 2026 2nd in the McCabe deal February of 2023.
They traded picks two drafts away and three drafts away. Like trading 2027 and 2028 picks today. I thought that was your point, sorry7
They sure did and That has nothing to do with what I said
Would you pay a first or second for these guys if you were another team? I think that’s wishful thinking for all these guys. If a team was offering a first or second Robertson would be traded. Rifai is a 26 year old dman without nhl experience who is paying a 1st or second for that.I wonder if we could maybe get a 1st or 2nd each for Steeves, Timmins, Robertson, Niemela, Rifai, Murray, Hildeby and Hirvonen?
What are you saying?26 year old dman who has never played an NHL game does not have any value. If you were to trade some of our assets we wouldn’t even be interested in a 26 year old dman who has never played an nhl game.
I think it becomes more of "We've done that before for multiple seasons and it hasn't resulted in anything." kind of vibe.
Why mortgage your future when you are clearly low on prospects, and have to constantly deal with rentals that don't re-sign. Which leaves us with almost no cost controlled assets to fill out our roster?
I don't think he is being serious.Would you pay a first or second for these guys if you were another team? I think that’s wishful thinking for all these guys. I think this is overvaluing our prospects.
If you believe the rumours 2nd round picks were being offered for Robertson last year. If I am a team like Chicago, San Jose or even the Flyers with all the 2nd round picks they have I would throw one at Robertson to play on the 2nd line and get 1PP time. Both young goalies would bring you back a 2nd if you trade them. After that you are getting lat picks or contracts back.Would you pay a first or second for these guys if you were another team? Leafs going to make this list next time?
Almost sounds like some of these teams = Leafs.
Which teams? I don't see the Leafs having a lot in common with any of those teams. Most of those "upsets" were due to lights out goaltending (LA, BOS, MTL, TBL, CAR, VGS, NJ), or proven winners (Dats + Zett + Lids, Chara, etc) putting teams on their back.
None of our guys have proven shit in the playoffs to be in the conversation with any of those teams, outside of St. Louis, which is fitting.
Not much thereFeel free to fill in what I've missed. I know that not everything has the same weight and importance, but here are some trade chips:
2026 1st round pick
2025 2nd round pick
Alex Steeves
Fraser Minten
Easton Cowan
Connor Timmins
Nick Robertson
Nikita Grebenkin
Ben Danford
Topi Niemela
Marshall Rifai
Matt Murray
Dennis Hildeby
Artur Akhtyamov
Roni Hirvonen
So we have assets.
Which ones? A bunch of those teams had more success leading up to their SC than the Leafs have ever experienced with this core. Him putting Detroit on that list is laughable considering how damn good that team was through the late 90's through the 2000's, same goes for EDM in their window in the 80's. Bos, LA, Vegas, Wash, EDM, MTL, NJ, etc., had all achieved more in their "10 year" window prior to winning the cup vs the Leafs. I don't see any similarities there outside of St. Louis.Until they have proven it in the playoffs they haven't.
He mentioned on a couple that some just hadn't proven it in the playoffs until they won.

He is looking at those teams in the vacuum of a season in terms of "most surprising". If you look at those teams with the cores they won with, they all did WAY more prior to their cup wins the playoffs in comparison with the Leafs. I think you're trying to find similarities to support your optimism, which is OK. Objectively most of the teams on that list are far superior in terms of pedigree vs. the Leafs.
The more names I see on that list the worse it looks. Not much there
Nobody wants those dudes, man. You gonna trade Cowan or Minten just to get bounced in the first round again? That's literally the only assets that anyone would want, plus the first round pick. No matter who we add, we ain't getting by Bennet, Tkachuk, Barkov, Reinhart even if we do win a round. It's clear as day. This core doesn't have it.
