Feel free to fill in what I've missed. I know that not everything has the same weight and importance, but here are some trade chips:

2026 1st round pick
2025 2nd round pick
Alex Steeves
Fraser Minten
Easton Cowan
Connor Timmins
Nick Robertson
Nikita Grebenkin
Ben Danford
Topi Niemela
Marshall Rifai
Matt Murray
Dennis Hildeby
Artur Akhtyamov
Roni Hirvonen

So we have assets.

Apparently we could get a Gourde for the 1st, or a Laughton for Minten. Not sure what Cowan gets you these days - should be a decent trade chip.

Half of the list doesn't hold any value though, any trade would be administrative.

Our asset predicament is that even adding everything together, it may not be enough for a difference maker, but if it is, then we're pretty much done for a while.

I think we waited a touch too long on Hildeby and Akhtyamov.

But speaking of Matt Murray...from Nashville's system...I'd attempt to double-down on Matt Murrays with one of Hildeby or AA; His development arc is longer, but he looks pretty solid. I think we'll need more depth and doing so cheaply would be the smart thing.

On your list, I'd divide after Niemela.

And on the draft: Am I hearing correctly that this is supposed to be a weak draft?

Some have some protection, but no NMC's.
Domi
Knies
McMann
Reaves
Holmberg
Lorentz
Paccioretty
McCabe
Ekmann-Larsson
Benoit
Timmins
Myers
Kampf
Danford

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I bet if Paccioretty was on another team there would be a number here saying he might be worth picking up for depth.

Every year some posters will latch on to some depth player and go on and on about how this depth player would be a great pickup for the playoffs, Pageau or Perron, or Paccioretty or ... you know know the story.

So if those support/depth players are such a good acquisition for the Leafs, doesn't it hold true that they'd be a good acquisition for another team?

Yes, included are some important pieces in this list, but a GM shouldn't fall in love with a player.

TSN trade board is not the limit of available players.

Recoup some assets I agree

Nobody wants those dudes, man. You gonna trade Cowan or Minten just to get bounced in the first round again? That's literally the only assets that anyone would want, plus the first round pick. No matter who we add, we ain't getting by Bennet, Tkachuk, Barkov, Reinhart even if we do win a round. It's clear as day. This core doesn't have it.

Haha. Of course people want those players I've listed.

We have to expect Shanny/Tre are going to want to keep their jobs. They'll be adding at the deadline no matter how cynical leafs fans are. Why would a current GM care about TOR's future GM in 2029?

Also why build a competive team only to resign to the perceived notion that "FLA are just too good".

As a fan you have to expect a certain amount of morgaging of the future.
Would it actually shock people if Minten/Cowen were traded?

I wouldn't. Toronto are competing now and not 4 years from now.

No but tbh I don’t make any deals for rentals that cost our top prospects
You don't? What do you usually do? What organization do you currently manage?

I bet we will see teams trade 2027 picks.

Half? Which half?
If you were putting a package together for a GM because you were interested in a player like Laughton and you had to get to 100 points to get him, I'd think of our assets like:

Fraser Minten - 110
2026 1st - 100
2025 2nd - 50
Nick Robertson - 20
Nikita Grebenkin - 20
Topi Niemela - 20
Dennis Hildeby - 20
Artur Akhtyamov - 20
Alex Steeves - 0
Connor Timmins - 0
Marshall Rifai - 0
Matt Murray - 0
Roni Hirvonen - 0

Cowan is the most valuable but don't really know what he's worth, probably changes month to month.

Says who? Do you have a GM Handbook?

Apparently Danford is already worthless? Guess we should have traded our 1st round pick last year.
No. Not at all. I will add him to the list.

26 year old dman who has never played an NHL game does not have any value. If you were to trade some of our assets we wouldn’t even be interested in a 26 year old dman who has never played an nhl game.

If we had a surplus of good D then maybe, but if he can't even warrant a callup with our mess and all the injuries....

I wonder if we could maybe get a 1st or 2nd each for Steeves, Timmins, Robertson, Niemela, Rifai, Murray, Hildeby and Hirvonen?

I understand the HF Culture all too well:

Never trade prospects and never trade draft picks.
I think it becomes more of "We've done that before for multiple seasons and it hasn't resulted in anything." kind of vibe.

Why mortgage your future when you are clearly low on prospects, and have to constantly deal with rentals that don't re-sign. Which leaves us with almost no cost controlled assets to fill out our roster?
