I will never cheer against the Sabres but they have demoralized me. They have broken my spirit and my love for the game. I should not care as much as I did and that caring is now involuntarily going the way of the dodo bird . I had hoped to see a Stanley Cup in my lifetime but at my age and the makeup of this team my hope will no doubt never come to fulfilment.
My daughter is turning 14 in May. She had not been alive for a playoff game. How depressing is that?

This saddens me.

Your post reminded me that I made a rude reply to you recently. I apologize.

I feel your pain. Original 1970's fan here who reads your posts with great interest and familiarity. This franchise has gone backwards. Significantly over the past decade.

If Lindy Ruff is at a loss for words regarding this patient, then it's terminal.

Nicely done. Hizzoner is a good poster, a very knowledgable hockey guy and a long time Sabre fan (from across the border I believe). Always insightful and respectful.

Good read Deep Blue......

Us fans from the '70's are now approaching that age ourselves and still no Cup. Not much hope either.

Mitts is fitting in well with his new team although he still goes thru his drought periods where the playmaking he excels at goes south.

BUT, there is one hell of an experienced supporting cast to provide support and his droughts are a lot shorter now.

He's on the top PP and his current linemates are Nichushkin and Colton. Both have SC rings on their fingers.

What does this mean?. Is it French? Russian? Some kind of elvish?

It's sad to say but Sabres may not have a fan base in 30 years. New fans aren't chosing the Sabres unless you are born into it and even then what's to stop them when they are older to cheer for another team.

We are all aging and the Sabres have given us nothing to look forward to for 14 years now.

This post just further confirms my fears. The Sabres should literally be put on the endangered list.

really, you think Mittelstadt is the difference maker? lol
its the move that symbolizes Adams incapacity to built any sorts of a NHL roster and that he has absolutely no clue what he is doing.
I think everybody would have been fine if he trades for a sort of D we actually need or another more competent C.
You just don't make this kind of trade and fail to add any sorts of top6 F.
Especially if you think nobody would come here anyways because of palm trees and taxes.

Someone mentioned it around here a few weeks back and I'm starting to think it's not a bad idea. They need to hire someone like Brian Burke, not necessarily him specifically, but someone who has run an organization and has won in this league to do an audit of the entire org from top to bottom. Something is rotten within this organization and they need some kind of outside perspective to be able to identify it. What they are doing is just not working. Pay an expert a million bucks to come in here for a year and figure out what is wrong. I'm not just talking about the players either. They need to look at every single layer of this team and find out what exactly they are doing wrong. Players are a big part of it, but I have a feeling the rot runs much deeper.

Funny but that was something we talked about when Pegs first bought the team. And it never happened. And never has happened.

That’s what Adams asked Karmanos to do after he hired him.

But he (Karmanos) is obviously not a former GM or POHO who ran a winning team.

flyers fan coming in peace, you need new ownership, bring in gm that's been in a winning culture, hire a coach that knows how to win and let the gm and coach work together and rebuild the team to the coach's identity.

problem is the culture is bad, no matter what coach comes in here unless they are allowed to rebuild the team to their identity, it's going to be the same problems.

Krueger was not a permissive coach, Granato would allow everything without any consequences or limits to players ice time
Krueger was a soccer president who then was tasked to coach a hockey team based on his experience with building cultures and leadership. That’s why I picked him. Granato just didn’t believe in accountability which led to a country club culture.

I've only been a fan since 2009. So I've been through these perennial rebuilding years. Living in Alberta Canada I became a fan early in my teen years & started watching/listening on the family PC. There's a point now where I don't even turn the game on & just get notifications on my phone for the final result.

Nothing changes if nothing changes man. All the fans just seem... done

It doesn't hurt if u don't watch, out of sight out of mind the last two games.
I only wish that was the case, Sabre.

Been around since The Bisons won The Calder in 1970.

This runs deep enough that the correct rational solution is controlled by the emotional interest, sadly!

Death by paper cuts I'm afraid.

Thank you. I have shared the passion with all you like minded posters who have given both plaudits and criticism when appropriate. My late wife would tell me "It's only a game" and she was right--but it was and is a game that can-and did for most of my life-bring excitement and joy. Taking my son and now adult grandsons to the games meant we shared the ups downs of the team together. I look forward to those ups again!!
Merry Christmas to all and may the New Year bring all happiness, good health and prosperity!
