Love my avatar too much and trust the Habs organization too little to bet on this.

Good initiative though, I see nobody is willing to bet on Slafkovsky so far. How interesting we were force fed Slafkovsky hype like foie gras geese but it still hasn't landed. I wonder why that is, maybe I can make a ten point list of why Slafkovsky doesn't fit the profile of a 1OA.

So @ExpatHabs how are you taking this Slaf pick? I hope not too bad...

Many people who took the bet still haven't changed their avatar.

I can understand waiting until tomorrow but after that you will be showing your true colors.

Unnecessary risk. If Wright wasn’t the man, draft Cooley or someone else who doesn’t have such an outlier profile. Truly boom or bust — I don’t like that with the 1OA.

But he’s a Hab now so let’s hope it falls into place.

Glad the Habs disappointed me, and in a way I knew they would so they didn’t disappoint me actually. It’s the same as always.

Yeah, I'm really hoping HuGo can prove to be right with these acquisitions of Slaf and Dach over Wright and Romanov.

Seems like they're overvaluing speed and size and small tournament sample sizes over longer track records of high IQ... I hope they get it right. Or if they don't this time, they don't continually get it wrong....

What was the bet? lol

Explained in the OP.

Pick who MTL is gonna draft 1st overall. If you're wrong, you must sport the avatar I currently have (Bergy drawing), until first game of the season.

Almost everyone picked Shane Wright. A few picked Cooley. So we almost all lost, except 1 or 2 who rightfully picked Slafkovsky.

A few people haven't changed their avatar despite losing the bet.

Gosh for some reason I thought I was in another thread, of course it's explained in the OP lol.
I didn't bet ITT but I thought for sure they were gonna draft Wright so I'll change my profile pic :)

I just change my profile picture, i'd take time because I wanted to see goodbye on my cutie face.

I was beting on Cooley because of comment of Hughes... but Slafkovsky is a amazing pick too, I really like him and happy to see him with Suzuki and Caufield.

The trade of Dach, it's a big W too. I still believe on potential of Dach, with MSL he can become a solid top 6 C, no doubt about that.

Ok, I've joined the crew :pcheer:

Also, there should be a cool avatar for the winners too (if there were any!)

Welcome aboard the Maestro Army!

There were only 1 or 2 winners. No one would notice it if they had an avatar dedicated to their win.

But boy did we lose the bet en masse.

I’m still surprised Wright went as high as 4OA. But maybe I shouldn’t be. The eternal power and tyranny of the consensus.

Who was your pick for the Habs?
Cooley or Slafkovsky, depending the time of the day you would have asked me. The late great GM of the New York Football Giants was once asked about his strategy in drafting players. He replied: I like big men who can run. I think that logic can also apply to hockey: draft big men who can skate. Slafkovsky meets that criteria. The team chose wisely and in my opinion drafted the player who clearly has the highest upside of all the usual suspects that were in consideration at 1OA. It was so apparent to me that Wright's development had stalled. Despite the wave of opinion that is usually associated with any consensus, I strongly believe Wright will only have an ordinary career in the NHL. The fact that three teams were able to resist the 'tyranny of the consensus' provides cogent support that my assessment of Wright's upside is not up the proverbial gum tree. When the team passed on Wright I smiled. Almost as broadly as when I heard that the Leafs had foolishly traded Russ Courtnall for John Kordic. It's a good time to be a Habs fan. The Team's journey into the darkness is coming to a end.

...so I'm glad I didn't make the bet, cuz I had that crushing gut-wrencher that I'd be wrong and would have to quit this place instead of rocking that horrific Bargain Bin avvie...so who broke their word and didn't honor the bet??...
