Value of: A 2nd line center to Montreal.

I mean, the habs did trade the rangers ryan mcdonagh for a cap dump with term…
Sure, but by referencing that specific trade you are admitting that Mika is an egregious capdump. You are also counting on lightning striking twice….

In other words its extremely remote that the Habs would do something colossally stupid like that again.

I dont like mika, he had a slow start but played ppg hockey 2nd half of the year

Demidov is already there. He’s got the skills to be a fantastic centre. Maybe sign an older ufa short term?

Bo Horvat and Samuel Bolduc

for

Adam Engstrom, David Reinbacher and Calgary's 2025 first rounder

If healthy, Reinbacher is a 1st paring dman in the making IMO. Even though he missed the entire season, he was by far, their best AHL dman in the few games he's played. Most of their fans don't know already, but they have a gem and he won't get traded anytime soon

How about
to the Montreal Canadiens:
-Jesperi Kotkaniemi

to Carolina Hurricanes:
-Owen Beck
-Jayden Struble
-3rd round pick

It might sound funny, but kind of a cheaper option compared to the other proposals.

I wouldn't trade any of those pieces individually for Jesperi Kotkaniemi, let alone all three of them.

This is absolutely bananas. And for what? I'd rather give Kirby Dach another chance with Demidov on his wing than bring Kotka and that contract.

Nevermind that, I'd rather re-sign Christian Dvorak instead of of re-acquring Kotkaniemi.

He is still better than Evans, Newhook and Kapanen as the 2C, RIGHT NOW !

And he still has potential to be an okay 2C in the next few years. The kid is still 24 years old.

I don't think Kotkaniemi is better than Jake Evans right now.

I would definitely prefer Evans in that spot rather than Kotkaniemi.

The Habs wished Kotkaniemi was still with the team at this moment. At 4.5 millions a year for a future 2B/3A centerman is pretty reasonable. Him and Demidov on the 2nd line could have been something. Add a UFA like Nikolej Ehlers and there goes your second line for next year.

Slafkovsky - Suzuki - Caufield
Ehlers - Kotkaniemi - Demidov

Kotkaniemi with Ehlers and Demidov could get 50 points easily on a top 6 and pp2 ice time.
No disrespect but The Habs need a 2nd line centre. They already have a 4th line guy.

Also the value....wow not even close. KK is close to being a cap dump.

Another proposal?

You can take this with a grain of salt, and mods can delete this if need be, because there is no 'source' but the Canadiens, on at least one occasion, have had discussions with Edmonton about Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

I have no idea if they were initiated by Montreal or by Edmonton, but it was a "discussion" so there was, at the very least, some level of mutual interest.

I said on our board, I will say it here. Best option for Habs would be to sign a UFA (Matt Duchene). Montreal is still in rebuild mode (although towards the latter stages) so I would not feel comfortable trading futures for older players.

If the team is in even better position next year then that would be the signal for me that the rebuild is over and it's ok to trade futures for present. I need to see this year wasn't a fluke (I do not think this is the case, just saying).
