Value of: A 2nd line center to Montreal.

Horvat was signed like 5 days after the trade was made, that price was paid with the Isles knowing full well that an extension was a realistic possibility.

That said we see how well it's doing Buffalo to hoard assets, not sure I'd do Beck + 2 1sts but I'd probably bite on Beck/Kapanen + 1st + 2nd or Roy and 2 1sts. A player at his age making that kind of money could turn into a problem rather quickly though, and I'd probably rather just get into a bidding war for Bennett if we're going to pay a roughly 30 year old over 8 million a year
Horvat's buyout cap impact is $2.833M over double the amount of years left to his deal at the time, which is a non-issue with the cap rising.

By then you can basically erase him and his cap from your team by replacing a bottom-6 vet with an ELC kid, which we will have in spades in MTL.

I have a feeling Bennett's next contract, if pulled out of FLA, will not be as buyout friendly...

VAN : EP (25% retained)

MTL : #16 + #17 2025 + Beck + O.Kapanen + Roy

Vancouver gets 2 first pick + 3 great NHL prospect

No. Pettersson has been absolutely terrible for a season and a half. He's also the 5th highest paid player in the league. No intelligent gm would pay $11.6m for a 2c. Just stop

Can't see them retaining that long but his proposal is EP at 75%, so no 11.6 or 5th higest paid player.

How many 2C caliber players are even in the league? It seems contending teams won’t trade them for obvious reasons. And if the player is ~25 or younger, even bad teams rarely trade them. Acquiring a center through a trade seems to be a wait and pounce situation

you're on a roll. why not also include Hage, so we can give the canucks all our C prospects? Especially after Tocchet just called him out for lack of fitness and leadership.

Ppl are delusional

I wouldn't even give a first alone for EP at this point unless it's 50% retained then sure I'd give our later first this year and nothing else

Damn, that's tragic for Edmonton
No, it's just good drafting by Montreal. Edmonton gave up a late 2nd, ie, a decent chance at an NHLer and a longshot for an impact player.
Edmonton got a rental who they like enough to extend, so it's win-win.

I find it funny Hab fans say we should just wait and draft more centers or wait for Hage. News flash guys the sweet deals we have on our players are ticking so the more we wait the shorter the window we have to compete for a cup. I say we trade our draft picks/prospects to get our 2nd line center and start filling huge holes in our line up.

A team retaining for 7 years is a ridiculous ask. Wont happen, so it invalidates the whole thing

SJS retains on Hertl for 5 years, Karlsson 4 years. As a Fan of Both teams, if VAN decides to rebuild because Hughes won t sign this is a very good Deal given the last year and a half. Not sure I d pull the trigger as MTL though, that s a lot of quality assets if there is a Long Term issue.
