If MTL could add Horvat without going into its core or tip top prospects they shoukd do it. If it took two mid firsts and Beck that’s a no brainer. The team is good and hoarding lesser assets for some fantasy that a top center will be traded for pieces and parts is unrealistic as I see it. Thet has no clear powerhouse team beyond maybe TB . MTL has as good a chance as any team over the next five years.

He went for that because he was a free agent to be. It wasn't because of age. Free agents always, most get 2nd round pick, or 1st round pick and like B prospect

If you want to hoard assets that’s fine but a trade like that costs essentially nothing and fills the biggest need that MTL has. Horvat is quite good and brings some B game and intangibles. He’s not just a scorer.

No Lundell isn't being moved by Panthers even if they resign Bennett who will take a cheap deal or they will let him go. Lundell is everything to them especially their coach

No one knows now until they get someone running the ship. Personally would like to keep both but the new hockey ops could want to strip it down instead of Lou remaining with the status quo.

Yeah Horvat as a Canadian player must be so horrified by the idea of playing in MON. I guess NYI is so much better at the moment.

That said we see how well it's doing Buffalo to hoard assets, not sure I'd do Beck + 2 1sts but I'd probably bite on Beck/Kapanen + 1st + 2nd or Roy and 2 1sts. A player at his age making that kind of money could turn into a problem rather quickly though, and I'd probably rather just get into a bidding war for Bennett if we're going to pay a roughly 30 year old over 8 million a year

He signed an extension (an expensive one at that) with them, he wasn't traded as a rental. Asking for an extra mid round 1st when he's gotten older and has a concerning contract by the end of it is unjust.

So you're saying I was right and the Isles paid that price only after knowing what an extension would look like and that it was palatable to them? Great, glad we're on the same page

The Habs just finished the season with 68 points and were one year removed from a 55 point season, there was no reason to trade for a more proven centre at the time since the team sucked ass.

Even in hindsight it was better for the Habs not to do that.

- Who knows which PLD the Habs would've got, the LA version or the Winnipeg/Washington version. Given he would've been stuck playing with guys like Newhook, Anderson, Armia and Gallagher on the Habs second line, my guess is his point totals would've looked like the ones he had on LA.
- Calgary exceeded expectations, so the Habs got the 16th pick this year instead of getting Florida's
- Habs' re-signed Monahan for centre depth and got a first round pick for him from Winnipeg.
- Habs finished with 76 points last year and ended up with Demidov at 5th overall, adding PLD would've added a few more points and made them pick later.

The hindsight revisionist history regarding PLD lacks context and understanding. There is absolutely no guarantee he would have had the same season he just had in Montreal.
