If I am the Isles GM I would NOT want anything to do with Laine or Matheson.Horvat + Dobson for Laine + Matheson + Mailloux + 1sts + Prospects
I would definately require Hage as part of the package.

I think Matheson would be good for the Isles, they have a lot of stay at home RHD and Matheson could be the go to PMD for them if they don't re-sign DeAngelo. If I am the Isles GM I would NOT want anything to do with Laine or Matheson.

I think its more likely we keep matheson and remove dobson from the hypothetical trade,Matheson aligns perfectly with Lou's core age group.
Yup.Why would Ehlers sign a 3 year deal, he’s gonna get 8M for over 6 years easy if he hits the market. Why would any of those players sign such short contracts for such a cheap yearly
His multiple injuries and lack of progress mean both fans and management don't see him as a core piece anymore. What happened to Kirby Dach? Is he like never playing again? Like total Robidas island?
So a guy who’s about to turn 30 with a $8.5m cap hit for another 6 years is what we’d be looking for and we’re going to package basically 3 first rounders for that pleasure? That makes sense?I think its more likely we keep matheson and remove dobson from the hypothetical trade,
I still think something around Horvat makes sense for what we'd be looking for,
Mailloux, better of the 2 1st's, Dach/newhook Maybe? Islanders get younger and Habs get more established at Center Ice.
Mailloux, +mid 1st in a mid draft and Dach/Newhook is quite a bit but it ultimately comes down to a numbers games, we're starting to have too many prospects to utilize them all.So a guy who’s about to turn 30 with a $8.5m cap hit for another 6 years is what we’d be looking for and we’re going to package basically 3 first rounders for that pleasure? I havent made up my mind on what i want to happen for that 2nd C position. A trade may get us a solution that is more long term and younger, but these guys can feel the gap between now and oen of hage or kapanen being ready. There are some UFA's this summer that I would be interested in.
Bennett
Tavares
Duchene
For varying cap hits and term we have the room to make a run at one of these three if they decide to test the market or their current teams need to cut ties to make room for other players.
All three would line up nicely as our 2nd centres until Hage arrives.
I like Dobson, but Id rather see what Hutson's gotNew York Islanders- Bo Horvat and Noah Dobson
Montreal- Gallagher, Lane Hutson and 2025 1st CG
Lane Hutson isn't a piece in any trade package. When you finally get a chance to watch him play you will understand.New York Islanders- Bo Horvat and Noah Dobson
Montreal- Gallagher, Lane Hutson and 2025 1st CGY
I understand what you’re trying to accomplish, but I just think there’s got to be another way to fill the 2nd line center position with someone who’s younger and who can grow with the team and be part of the nucleus. That’s where I would spend the draft/prospect capital that the Habs have. As for Mailloux in particular, I see him playing the right side on the second pairing. With all of the backlash he and the Habs garnered with his draft and how well he has done tying to grow as a person, I don’t know if he would be included in a trade, but like you say, Engstrom could be the guy to slot into the top four in his place, but he’s a LD and there’s the rub. Now, what team would be willing to give up a 2nd line center who’s around 24-26? That’s the hard partMailloux, +mid 1st in a mid draft and Dach/Newhook is quite a bit but it ultimately comes down to a numbers games, we're starting to have too many prospects to utilize them all.
Mailloux isn't usurping either Reinbacher, Hutson, or Guhle from the long term top 3. We also have other players that fit the mold as mailloux, Engstrom as an example. Alongside good bottom 3 options, like Xhekaj and Struble. We still would be Holding Hage and our other 1st as additional prospects on the way. Then up front while removing one of Dach/Newhook hurts we replace them with a Better 2C and Demidov next year who while Horvat declines to a 3C Haje hopefully steps in.
Suz-Cauf-Slaf
Demi-Horvat-laine
Gallagher, Anderson, Evans, Newhook/Dach, Heineman and even Roy to a lesser extent are all set up to be here medium to short term in the bototm 6
We have a window for the next 3-5 years while Demidov and Reinbacher are on there ELC's to keep growing and pushing. While having a numbers game in prospects id rather overpay to shore up the position and allow us to be competitive then waste prospects because we didn't overpay
I agree in theory, but look at other teams demands,I understand what you’re trying to accomplish, but I just think there’s got to be another way to fill the 2nd line center position with someone who’s younger and who can grow with the team and be part of the nucleus. That’s it for sure. It’s going to be painful, no matter how you cut it. I wouldn’t have any idea who I’d feel comfortable to trade away. Maybe trying to sign one of the UFA centers this summer to see what we have in the prospects such as Hage a few years down the road. What I am sure of is that Hughes has a lot of work to do in the offseasonI agree in theory, but look at other teams demands,
with Cozens - Buffalo wanted Slaf or Caufield,
Ottawa - wanted Cozens for Norris,
To get a proper 2c that "fits' as you describe, your giving up 1 of, Caufield, Slaf, demi or reinbacher
Which will it be?
You've seen Engstrom play? If you had then you wouldn't compare those two. Engstrome is a smoother Struble but without the physical play.Mailloux, +mid 1st in a mid draft and Dach/Newhook is quite a bit but it ultimately comes down to a numbers games, we're starting to have too many prospects to utilize them all.

Can’t imagine the isles being interested in thisHorvat + Dobson for Laine + Matheson + Mailloux + 1sts + Prospects

Didn't Bennett inform everyone he would not go to a Canadian team??My guess would be HuGo pulls out all the stops to try and sign Bennett. Failing that, we probably move something that hurts to go get someone people aren't thinking of as available right now. I think they see solidifying the 2C as the biggest hurdle remaining to the team taking a big step forward.
Kirby Dach could very well be better on the wing, and still part of the team as they move forward......his bad luck with injuries are putting his career in jeopardy that's for sure, but I agree he could still be a part of their future. Just not at C by the sounds of things.Speak for yourself, I haven't ruled out Kirby Dach yet.
High end proven top 6 talent (that’s not defensively inept/lazy) who’s of a similar age range to Barzal and Dobson. They have enough bottom pairing and filler defenseman, as well as bottom six and replacement level forwards. They need to find a forward to play alongside Barzal and Horvat on the top line as well as a 2C who can replace what they sent away in Nelson (pending Ritchie somehow makes an amazing jump to fitting into that spot seamlessly). Ideally 2 quality wingers and a quality 2C is the end goal. If Lee continues his production, put him on the top line and then find a C and RW to play with Simon Holmstrom on the 2nd line. Bottom 6 they can plug and play as necessary (pending they bring all these players back moving forward) between guys like Tsyplakov, Palmieri, Duclair, Cizikas, Pageau, Engvall, Gatcomb and Maclean. Why would the Isles trade Horvat?
Not super sure Horvat’s age and contract make sense for us.
Don’t know what Isles are looking for, but many teams, including the Habs, can use a Mattheson. Until Reimbecher is ready to play in the NHL full time, I doubt we move him. Our D is a bit thin with too many 5-6 players. It would be nice to have talent on our 3rd pair that could take over the second pairing if need be. Not too sure X will ever get there, and Strouble is pretty fringe, but could surprise if he keeps progressing (though he seems to be running out of runway).
Next training camp should very interesting for our D, and if we have any graduates from the A, then our situation could change quickly.
He did get 20 points in 16 games against the 5 worst teams in the KHL (below AHL level). That leaves 29 points in 48 games against non bottom-dwellers of the KHL.Wtf are you talking about? AHL for a few years, he is already torching the KHL which is a better league.
