Ok Quick! Now add there ages in and see where his season compares

What happened to Kirby Dach? Is he like never playing again? Like total Robidas island?
He’s still under contract for next year. Unfortunately with his health and level of play this year, he can’t be counted on as a 2c. He could still surprise next year, but it’s likely he’ll be moved to the wing or given a lesser role.

In the young guys department, Matt Beniers could be a target.

Seattle has a bunch of centers.
If you want Beniers you're going to have to pay up and it will hurt. I'm not opposed to the idea but Seattle's best center is Beniers and they have nobody even close to a #1C. They're basically just hoping they get Hagens/Misa etc in the draft to fix all their issues.

Beniers wouldn't be available for what's listed in OP. McCann maaaybe would be but we probably would want Hage coming back.

...he's a winger, it's obvious that he cannot handle the defensive duties of an NHL Centre...

I've said this before...Dach was the biggest spread EVER between expectations and results. Based on limited play the year before, we thought we had a superstar about to break out, instead we got a 3C on a good day.

I haven't given up on him as a GOOD player, but no longer think he's star material.

Oh well....

DALLAS SENDS:
Tyler Seguin

MTL SENDS:
Patrick Laine

1v1 Hockey trade

MTL gets a stop gap 2nd line center for the next two years to play with Demidov.

Dallas gets cap relief after the 25-26 season to re-sign make moves and adds another FIN to the collection.
The only way Tyler Seguin gets traded to Montreal is if the Stars are willing to do a negative value trade, like the trades that brought Laine and Sean Monahan to the Canadiens.

Out of pure curiosity, what would you expect back in a trade that sends Beniers to Montreal that isn’t listed in the OP’s list because the last two years Beniers been producing at a rate of a very high end 3C / Very low end 2C over the last two years despite being given prime minutes and being paid like a low end 1C

Ideally it would either be a roster player who is young and has similar issues with top end potential or a package of A prospects. Specifically the one who isn't available is Reinbacher, Seattle would probably want to trade Beniers for a more established player but would want either a RHD or a higher potential center coming back.

Beniers is the exact type of player the OP is looking for, he hasn't really played with talent a lot in Seattle and is consistently on the level of a 50-60pt player who is very good two way. He just isn't an elite offensive player or a 1C. He could still potentially get there, especially considering he's only 22 and has looked quite a bit better with Kakko on his line, he's just been super inconsistent in general.

He's also really not being paid like a 1C with the current cap structure and it increasing. In 3 years that'll probably be low end 2C/3C money.

I don't think Seattle is looking to trade him by any means though.

Personally I wouldn't trade him for a package. I think with Seattle's prospects coming up there would be no point unless we're getting a bonafide or close to can't miss 1C back.

I'm not sure there's a trade to be made but if there is it's probably something like Reinbacher/Mailloux + 1st + 2nd or something along those lines.

There are a few things you mentioned that I agree while there are some that I disagree with. I do agree that he would be the perfect fit in Montreal. He's developing to be a very high-pace two-way center and as you said, I just don't think he has the offensive potential to be a 1C. He's certainly going to make a very great 2C though. However, I disagree that he's a consistent 50-60 player. He hasn't shown that in two of his three full NHL seasons so far. He is most likely going to get there sooner or later though.

If there's one thing I do know for sure is that both Reinbacher and Demidov aren't moving. I think there's a lot of thing that Montreal could potentially offer if Seattle wanted more all-around depth. NHL players like Newhook and Dach would be available. Dach showed that he has the potential to be a top 6 center. Both he and Newhook have had seasons where they paced at 50+ points.

Montreal also has a lot of pieces to sweeten the deal. NHL ready centers (Beck & Kapanen), NHL ready wingers (Roy), NHL ready RHD (Mailloux), two mid first round pick (around 11-18) and interesting prospects (Hage, Engstrom). If Seattle shows they are open to moving Beniers for the right package, I'm pretty sure there is something that could be worked out that would make both sides happy.

If Seattle sees something in Dach that they like, I feel like a package of Dach, Mailloux and a mid first round pick would be enough to convince Seattle. They would get two immediate assets (a young NHL center with untapped potential as well as a young NHL ready RHD who has a good chance of becoming a top 4) and a high draft pick.

That's probably true, although Beniers could hit 50pts as well this season.

I'm not sure Dach + Mailloux + 1st would be enough for Seattle. Newhook maybe.

Cuylle be crazy not to test free agency. He's prime offer sheet candidate
yes IF he gets signif more $$$ elsewhere.
Rs are gonna go young and in next 2-ish yrs he could be a leading F on an original 6 franchise w/upside
Rs will give a suitably high enuf offer
Also, only need to MAYBE juggle $$ first yr, then Panarin $$$ is off the books

Cuylle likely hit jackpot if he test free agency. KK top offer no doubt

Just make Beck your 2c
If he isn't worthy enough for the job, nobody else is going to trade you one for him
But then if he was able to do the job, we wouldn't need to trade him. Circular logic there.

I think he can be part of a deal for a 2C, but he is not a top 6.

Seems pretty obvious that Montreal should trade their 1st for the best player they can get.

They don’t know how to draft in the first round (kotkaniemi instead of tkachuk, slaf instead of Cooley, reinbacher instead of michkov).

May as well trade for a proven player instead of wasting yet another 1st round pick.
I think i disagree with everything you said here, so lets agree to disagree.

To be fair, Habs were expected to pick Zadina (not tkachuk), Wright was expected to be 1st overall (not Cooley) and Reinbacher has barely even touched NHL ice.

KK and Slaf are proven in that they are roster players in the nhl, one of which is on a first line and Reinbacher is probably going to make the club next season.

Sure the players you listed were picked below and some are better, retrospectively, but the players selected instead are neither wasted 1st round picks nor are they "obviously" a sign that the habs shoudl just give up on drafting in the first round.

Hutson came out in the 2nd round of that draft - how many teams have "wasted their first round pick" by comparison?

Habs fans are going to roast or laugh at you for this take because of Demidov and Hage, but this is completely valid. And it’s not just a MB v Kent Hughes issues. Habs have been generally been bad at drafting and developing for 30 years

There are some UFA's this summer that I would be interested in.

Bennett
Tavares
Duchene

For varying cap hits and term we have the room to make a run at one of these three if they decide to test the market or their current teams need to cut ties to make room for other players.

All three would line up nicely as our 2nd centres until Hage arrives.

I believe hughes has a short list of centers that he wants and talks have already begun with other teams. I don't know who he has targeted but it is fun to speculate.
