I think our best bet is to get by with one of or a rotation of Evans, Newhook, Beck, and even Dach when he comes back for the time being, and try for a signing this summer if there’s a fit. If not, then we can wait until a better trade or free agent opportunity comes along down the line, or see if one of Hage, Kapanen, or someone else emerges. It seems like everyone needs a 2C right now and only one team can sign Bennett this offseason. Everyone else is settling for the trade market or settling for an over-slotted 3C; it's a game of musical chairs.
I think you're going to have to overpay to land a 2C. I don't think what you've got on the table will get it done.
I totally agree we will need to overpay to get a 2C but we are in a position to do it, whether it’s through UFA with more than enough cap space going forward
or via trade, with lots of quality prospects and picks.
5 years ago, yes. But not now.Kadri for Calgarys 1st back
He is 34 but he is still having a good year and wouldn't cost much. We just saw what a young 2c would cost and I don't see The Habs doing it. Kadri would be a good 2c and then 3rd or 4th line C when/if one of The Habs younger guys is ready for the 2c role.5 years ago, yes. But not now.

Hello Mr Grigorenko, you like Montreal? Maybe you like play with Demigod?

Does anybody know Grigorenkos contract status?
Don't get me wrong, I love to have Kadri on the team...5 years ago. But I doubt he has the vision to center Demidov. He is 34 but he is still having a good year and wouldn't cost much. Low risk / high reward.....
So he's free? HELLO COMRADE GRIGORENKO, welcome to Montreal. From Google
Grigorenko opted to return to Russia as an impending free agent, signing a three-year contract with his former club, CSKA Moscow of the KHL, on 3 July 2021.
20g and 24a in 62 games this year. also a -9
yea, every line will need that guy imo. Let Demidov do the fancy vision stuff. Kadri can dig in corners.....Don't get me wrong, I love to have Kadri on the team...5 years ago. But I doubt he has the vision to center Demidov.
I always see Kadri as a hard working meat and potatoes guy, not an elite vision center.
The best center for Demidov is Suzuki, but then, talking about too much on one line.
Remember just a few mo ths sho when any Montreal fan even suggesting we'd get Calgary's 1st (rather than Florida's) was shouted down and ridiculed like it was an impossibility? Good times. I've enjoyed seeing Calgary surge this year just enough for that pick to likely be in the mid teens.Kadri for Calgarys 1st back
7 mill a year until he's 39. how much are you retaining on that contract?Kadri for Calgarys 1st back
I think you need to send a message to Seattle fans as they have 3 top 6ish centers (4 if one thinks that Jared McCann can play center) and Berkely Catton is close as well.Hence why I suggest Hage to entice teams in parting with a younger 2C.
Keep him then yes older C are likely the realistic option left. Still would like to see what followers of other teams would say is available on their side rather than just speculate on Habs side.

Upon further review, I wouldn't make that deal even with retention
Hopefully that pick ends up #11. That would be hysterical!Remember just a few mo ths sho when any Montreal fan even suggesting we'd get Calgary's 1st (rather than Florida's) was shouted down and ridiculed like it was an impossibility? Oh. And pass on Kadri.
no doubt; but in 2-3 years he'd be an anchor at 37 regardless of the cap.for a 2C 7 million is fair and in 2-3 years the cap will be so high 7 million won't matter much with all the money coming off the books by then....
Right now he would be 2nd in goals and 4th in points. Its not like he is a waste of a spot. Kadri can still play...

Canucks are in the same position looking for a legit top 6 center but we don't have a prospect like Hage in our system nevermind Beck.
One of the better bloggers mentioned an older center that could be gotten for cheap and I think it's a possibility.
