Value of: A 2nd line center to Montreal.

I think our best bet is to get by with one of or a rotation of Evans, Newhook, Beck, and even Dach when he comes back for the time being, and try for a signing this summer if there’s a fit. If not, then we can wait until a better trade or free agent opportunity comes along down the line, or see if one of Hage, Kapanen, or someone else emerges.
Not ideal, but it beats parting with valuable assets for a stop gap 2C, which is all that is going to be available unless we part with big pieces, which would most likely be a lateral move at best.
Lastly, there is absolutely no need to rush things. We are a rebuilding team, we have good prospects in the pipeline, and a 2C is not going to be the difference between where we are now and being a contender.
If the team makes the playoffs and goes on a bit of a run, and it looks like they are ready to take the next step, then I think they could start looking at making a big move either next deadline or next summer. At this point, it’s a bit premature, and I think management feels the same way, which is why they didn’t pursue anything too aggressively at the deadline.
Problem is more teams have space than their are viable solutions on the market.
Well there's other teams who also have deep prospect pipelines. And more importantly, you can't assume someone trading a 2C wants futures in return.
One of the better bloggers mentioned an older center that could be gotten for cheap and I think it's a possibility. It wont solve the problem, but push it for a later solution.
What we can't have is Demidov with Evans. I like Evans but he does not have the vision or skills to work with what may be a superstar.
Other then that, we are going to dig a hole to fill a hole if we are going to trade a major asset for a top notch 2C. Someone like Guhle will fetch any number of higher end 2C or older 1C, but do we dig a hole in LHD to do that? On the other hand, a top 2C AND Demidov will contribute far more to the team then Guhle ever will.

He is 34 but he is still having a good year and wouldn't cost much. We just saw what a young 2c would cost and I don't see The Habs doing it. Kadri would be a good 2c and then 3rd or 4th line C when/if one of The Habs younger guys is ready for the 2c role.

Don't get me wrong, I love to have Kadri on the team...5 years ago. But I doubt he has the vision to center Demidov.
I always see Kadri as a hard working meat and potatoes guy, not an elite vision center.
The best center for Demidov is Suzuki, but then, talking about too much on one line.

I have no problem giving him a two year contract and then extending it a few more. He's already playing with Demidov and played in the NHL so it's not like he needs to familiarize himself with playing for the Habs.
yea, every line will need that guy imo. Let Demidov do the fancy vision stuff. Kadri can dig in corners.....
but I agree having a real 2c for when Demidov gets here is priority #1 this summer......
Remember just a few mo ths sho when any Montreal fan even suggesting we'd get Calgary's 1st (rather than Florida's) was shouted down and ridiculed like it was an impossibility? Good times. I've enjoyed seeing Calgary surge this year just enough for that pick to likely be in the mid teens.

I think you need to send a message to Seattle fans as they have 3 top 6ish centers (4 if one thinks that Jared McCann can play center) and Berkely Catton is close as well.
Canucks are in the same position looking for a legit top 6 center but we don't have a prospect like Hage in our system nevermind Beck.
for a 2C 7 million is fair and in 2-3 years the cap will be so high 7 million won't matter much with all the money coming off the books by then....
Right now he would be 2nd in goals and 4th in points. Its not like he is a waste of a spot. Kadri can still play...
no doubt; but in 2-3 years he'd be an anchor at 37 regardless of the cap.
And habs have guys to pay like Hutson and Demidov then.
He'd be an ideal place holder if - he had maybe 2 years left on his deal.
He simply doesn't fit the habs rebuilding timeline - regardless of their run this year.

I agree, Habs shouldn't be moving these guys unless they can hit a home-run for a young C - which rarely happens.
Fortunately C's can be moved to the wing.

I see with your post that you didn't answer the part of his post that stated that Kadri's contract runs until he's 39.
Without Monahan trade, the habs don't end up with either Demidov or Hage.
Won't be ROR. Trotz likes him which means you would need to do a stupid overpay to even get him to think about. For some reason he has given ROR a NMC even though he doesn't have one.
