Realistically, you don't want to sign a UFA for 9 years because they won't be worth it. You couldn't do it with RFA's either due to the qualifying offer. This concept only makes sense in imagination land.

Never gonna happen. I know Leafs fans desperately want to see if they can puzzle out a way to get Tavares long term at a cheap caphit but no player agent in their right mind would recommend their client sign a deal like this.

Leafs fan. I don't want Tavares for 9 years...

What are the rules on this? If somebody signs a 1 year deal on July 1, don't they have to wait till Jan 1 to sign a 8 year deal?
