players also get hurt during warmups, no reason to do that either.

if you're going to get injured, you'll get injured....regardless of the activity you partake in relating to hockey or something else.

I think the distinction is being missed that Gaborik was hurt in a meaningless tournament that was in no way connected with the Kings. The Kings are losing his services for at least 20% of the season because of something that was not done in furtherance of the Kings' goals for the season.

I get that anyone can get hurt anywhere, but he was hurt doing something completely unrelated to what he's being paid by the Kings to do.

Yep, if he got hurt wearing a Kings jersey, at least he was on the ice helping the team.

This marketing event really isn't helping anyone. The event itself has been a complete dud in terms of ratings for ESPN, but hey, the NHL did get to experiment with ads on jerseys by having a sponsor logo on the right shoulder of every uniform. I'm sure there are now tons of people out there who will now use SAPs services as a result of this tournament.

Pssst, I was being sarcastic. Read my comments about the World Cup

Nobody misses the distinction. It's the same debate that has been going on ever since any NHL player has been involved in any non-NHL game. It's said about the Olympics, World Championships, or any other scenario like it(none of them helping any NHL team in any way whatsoever). Tavares got hurt that way. E.Staal got hurt that way. Seguin got hurt again that way. Gretzky got hurt that way.

Players want to play in these tournaments. Gaborik could've said no thanks, I'm not playing for some dumb fake team. He could've said my groin is acting up, everyone would've believed him, and gotten out of it. He didn't. He's played an average of 55 games a year over the last 3 seasons. Maybe this is his injury for the season. Hopefully. Might help that it's October and November, as opposed to February and March. Or not, who knows.

There's nothing to be done about it. They set up the tournament, he played in it, he got hurt. End of story. Everyone else that gets paid to coach and play hockey for the Kings just needs to find a way to win while he's out.

It was just funny because I looked at my phone and was like "Hey, Brown scored. Good for him." Check box score, Brown didn't score.[/QUOT

Brown did play well last night, skated well, made some great pass's and threw the body around ok for a exhibition game and I believe he hit a post early...........sound like too many games last year doesn't it he is snake bitten with scoring like gabby is with staying healthy.............kempe looked good both in Ontario sunday and last night with sic moves and at one point bulled over 3 coyotes in front of the net when he came out of the corner, and his shootout move was awesome , setoguchi played well both games and has skated pretty well , I don't think he drank his speed away, our young dmen and trottman look like they need another year or so but will be players, gravel was not in LA last night though and lastly forbort (sp) has looked good both games and has first assists on two tip in off his shot from the point, happy he can get them thru ...........losing gabby hurts but its better now and he has all season to mend and catch up and this does give a another forward spot open to see who can handle it

Is this finally the year a young defensman steps up again? Forbort has looked quite good so far in the preseason. Confidence and assertiveness have held him back, IMO, but it looks like he's over it. Personally I think he's been passed on the depth chart by Gravel, but there's no reason he can't leapfrog back into a spot on the Kings.

Check out that ice time for McNabb and Gilbert. Shore got plenty of ice time as well.

Here are the stats for the LA game, https://www.nhl.com/gamecenter/ari-vs-lak/2016/09/26/2016010009#game=2016010009,game_state=live

Martinez and LaDue getting a heavy workload.

The defense in L.A. was brutal aside from Martinez and MacDermid. Ladue turned it around and was good in the third.

Hard to keep track of what defensemen played where. LaDue got a lot of ice time and had the best Corsi last night. I'm impressed how MacDermid seems to be outworking his original projected ceiling. Does anyone have any more info on his play last night? Or hey, anyone else's play last night?

LaDue, Cernak and to a degree Gravel struggled with the pace last night. You can see that LaDue is talented. Reminded me out a right shot Martinez. He struggled with the pace at first. Cernak is big. Bigger than Gravel it seemed, but he definitely needs time. Trotman looked ok one shift and then would have a terrible giveaway the next. I know it's just preseason, but I wouldn't think Trotman or Gravel make the team based off last nights performance. I'd rank the d last night in L.A.
Martinez
MacDermid
Ladue

Trotman
Gravel
Cernak

Nolan looked really good. Like he's right back at the level of play he was last season before he got hurt. Amadio struggled with the pace. Sutter is a good AHL player, too bad he's not on an NHL deal, he'd be a good 4th line call up. Lessio had good wheels. Setoguchi played hard, hands are still there along with some speed. Wouldn't be shocked or opposed to seeing him signed. Brodzinski was pretty meh. The NHLers were all good. Pearson even played some center.

Off memory the lines were

Setoguchi-Andreoff-Brown
Toffoli-Pearson/Kempe-Pearson/Kempe
Nolan-Sutter-Lessio
Brodzinski-Amadio-Lowry

Martinez played with LaDue, Trotman and MacDermid.
Cernak played with Gravel and MacDermid.

The pairings were all over.

Campbell needs to work on getting up once he goes down. He looked a lot like Storr.

Forbort has looked the best out of all the young defenders.

I agree, but the almost pickup style hockey game that was the Ducks Kings game does not bode well for him. He's just plain steady, and that might be all we want on the third pair, the steadiest guy. I remember some speedy and more risk taking guys in preseason over the years that step out, but then the season starts and every team has more structure with their systems, and the track meet circus like game is over with. I like FORBORT's game better to be our 3rd pair. He's not going to see much PP time, and neither will Gravel or LaDue if he sticks. Gravel got 7 shots on net, but that was playing a lot of PP, and with offense minded Gilbert, not Matt Greene. The fact Forbort got through a game without a minus playing with Greene is a feat itself. BTW, Gravel has 3 minuses in two games, and Forbort has two playing both games with Greene. Now with that said, I like a lot about Gravel's game as well. Up until last year their games were almost identical, but then Gravel got sent down after camp last year, made the PP unit at Ontario, and his more offensive mind set grew. He started taking more chances, and actually for the most part made good decisions with his pumped up game. FORBORT's o game is coming along, especially on the offensive blue line. If any of you ever watched McNabb in the AHL, you would have seen a very offensive minded player. Carrying the puck a lot, trying to deke guys all the time, pinches constantly, very good on the PP, and yes, his patented center ice hits along the boards. It will be a shame if we don't play Forbort first, if not both players at the same time or perhaps they both make the team. The team can not afford to lose Forbort to waivers, that's really the bottom line, and even a quick camp ending trade could be the same difference. We could be watching a NHL ready player playing steady minutes on another team for years.

When you read all the different boards and articles about Forbort, it seems like there are two camps. Those that like him a lot and those that don't like him a lot. I think a lot relates to understanding his true (possible) value. His game is "quiet," but when you've watched him a lot you start to realize he's tough to score on and play against. Forbort doesn't get a lot of + marks in games, but he can go stretches with no minuses. He's always been a net plus player, and that has always happened because he has fewer minuses than other guys.

To be fair I think a lot of the criticism comes from his NHL stint, which is appropriate imo. He looked tentative, behind the play, and out of position, and his foot speed was questionable. But he did do some things well, and I think most of us didn't think he got a fair shake--we wanted to see more.

A lot of the positive he is apparently displaying now when many can't see it.

I definitely saw good things in him last year both at the NHL and AHL level and think he's an NHLer, especially if he's grown.

I always thought the criticism was from people who look at how the Kings SHOULD HAVE taken Tarasenko. And because Forbort has developed slower than others.

Forbot

Can't speak for others, but my criticism was of his coordination a couple years back. When I saw him skate in person. The whole "big guys take longer to grow into their bodies", he was behind for a big guy. This is where my doubts come from.

Drafted in 2010 Forbort is going to make the Kings full time this year or be lost to waivers. He was a bad first round pick because he hasn't cracked the NHL yet, having to beat out guys like Ehrhoff/Scuderi/McBain/Ellerby. Other then that will he be able to handle top 4 or bottom pairing? Right now 6 years after the draft he's fighting for the 6-7 maybe 8 spot. Doesn't have anything to do with who else was taken after him.

Well I guess it wasn't as bad a pick as Teubert.

Anyways, I hope he makes the team and has a decent year. I will be ****ing ecstatic if he makes the top 4 and not being carried too bad by Doughty.
