If Kakko was picked 9th overall, he'd have been in Hartford the last 2 years. Yes, I know he's only 2o. No, I don't hate him. Yes, I think he will be fine eventually.

Panarin is a perimeter player in every one.

Autocorrect

He has no interest in playing in traffic and even getting involved in puck battles. He's hoping someone will win the puck for him. Kinda like the guy in schoolyard football who hides and then yells "i'm open, i'm open!"

Close it out like we closed out last road trips 3rd periods. Get the puck deep. Get it to the point and get in front.

I dont know what's wrong with Panarin. We've seen Zibs go through this but Panarin looks like a different player

Don't think he showed up in shape. Looks gassed quickly.

Panarin's decision making with the puck is completely gone. It's not a "diminished talent" thing. He so consistently made the right decisions with the puck his first 2 years. Fox at forward, if you will. Now he's turning the puck over on passes that are just terrible decisions before it even leaves his stick. I wonder if he could use a game or two off to clear his head...

It's what happens when you're not skating and making plays with speed while other players on the ice are. He's making plays almost at a standstill. It worked in 2019 and 2020, but this is 2021. The league only gets faster.

Panarin needs to change up his approach. He sets up in two areas:

He peels away at the left point or left half wall.

Never goes to the corners(he is a wing mind you) or play pivot behind the net.

His overindulge to the lateral pass is killing his game.
