Technically he already owns the PPG+ record as Wayne finished one season at exactly 1.0 PPG

And if not for the concussion issues, he’d likely be at the top of this list now with 19 seasons of 70+ points.
It doesn't get mentioned enough that Crosby's prime was played during the lowest scoring era for elite forwards in the past 50/60 years, even lower than the DPE.
Lower scoring and more defensive-oriented hockey also leads to less opportunities for superstar offensive talent to separate themselves from the pack. The top players are getting more ice-time on average these days as offense vs. defense is prioritized.
