A New CBA is picking up steam and the big news? Adding 2 games to 84 total

Preseason would drop to 4

4 games against your division
3 games against other division in your conference
2 games against other conference

What is everyone take?

This was brought up in 32 Thoughts. It’s the same basic thing we hear in the NFL. if you’re going to play these games - players paying and fans watching - just have them count.

In 91-92 it was 80 games, then they went to 84 games for 92-93 and 93-94.

Then they had the lockout season in of only 48 games in 1995, and after that it's been 82 game seasons apart from the 2013 lockout and the two Covid affected years.

I'd be down for a heavier split against your division and something of a season-to-season cut against the opposing conference. For instance, you'd split one home/away game per season against an opposing conference's division and rotate every other season.

I'm down for seeing a distinction between the two conferences when it comes to a Cup battle given a lowered level of interaction.

Obviously this won't fly with owners since they want each team to visit them at least once per year.

In the nfl it will impact tv revenue. I don’t think networks would care if the nhl adds or cuts 2 games.
And not like players play all 6 ps games. Most only play 3 so in the end the number of ps games they actually suit up for won’t change for the veterans.
